Let's start with the basics....
WHAT IS IRC IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's a way for people to communicate over the internet.
WHAT IS A SERVER? A server is a site that contains many "channels" or "rooms" where people can talk through IRC clients.
WHAT IS A CHAT CLIENT? A chat client is what is used to get on a server, and send messages to a channel via the server. There are many different clients depending on your operating system. For example, there is mIRC(our favourite client of course) and PIRCH. For UNIX there is IRCii. For MAC, there is IRCLE and Homer.
