Arberesh

Arbereshtarrak Italiako hegoaldean: Arberesh-albaniera Italiako hegoaldean mintzatzen den albanieraren dialektoa da. Herri multzo isolatuetan hitz egiten da, Kalabria, Avellino, Molise, Puglia eta Sizilian. Arbereshtarrak 260.000 dira, baina hizkuntzari eusten diote 80.000 edo 100.000 lagunek. Arbereshtarrek ez dute zerikusirik 1992tik hona Italiara ihesi doazen albaniarrekin. XV. mendetik daude kokatuta eskualde honetan.

Arberesh in Southern Italy

Arberesh: This dialect of Albanian is spoken in several "village pockets" in Calabria, Avellino, Molise, Puglia and Sicily in Southern Italy. There are about 80,000 to 100,000 speakers out of an ethnic population of 260,000. Anyway, speakers are diminishing and the language is very endangered. Do not confuse the Arberesh with recent refugees from Albania that scape to Italy. The Arberesh are descendants from migrants of the 15th century.

Arvanitika: Albanian in Greece

There may be around 400,000 albanians in Greece, divided in several communities. The most ancient, the Arvanites, live in Attica region where their identity and language (Arvanitika) is loosing ground. Many of them are even strongly nationalistic greeks, nowadays! The Cham community of the Chameria region (near the border with Albania) was massively deported to Albania after World War II. There are also newer Albanian inmigrants throughout Greece.
The 3rd column indicates if the name is Cham (C) or Arvanite (A).
