Evenki

The Evenkis were formerly known as Tungus. Now, Tungus or Tungusic is a linguistic name designating a language family. Other alterante or tribal names of closely related groups and subdivisions are Orochen, Orochon, Ile, Manjagir, Birachen, Solon... We have also Evenki communities of China known as Solon, Tungus, Ainak, Nakagyr and Orochon. The total area of the Evenki habitat is about 2.5 million square kilometres. However, their autonomous national territory is confined solely to the Krasnoyarsk district, where 3,200 of the 30,000 Evenks live. Close to 12,000 Evenks live in Yakutia. In 1989 there were around 30.000 Evenkis , and around 40% spoke their mother tongue, which they call Evedy Turën.
