Sizable Slovene minorities live outside Slovenia, in Austria (Carinthia and Styria), Italy (Trieste region) and Hungary. Regarding spellings, take in mind these conventions used here:

Slovenian in Italy

Around 100.000 people speak Slovene in Italy. Most in Trieste (49,000), Goriza (15.000) and Udine (25.000) provinces. Friulian is also spoken in some parts of this area. There is also an italian minority in Slovenia.

Slovenian in Carinthia, Austria

A Slovene minority lives in Austria, in Carinthia region (Karnten). According to the official census of 1991 14,500 persons colloquially speak Slovenian. Inofficial estimations by representatives of the ethnic group have shown that approximately 50,000 persons use Slovenian. There are also Slovenes in Styria region (see below) and in Vienna (german Wien, slovene Dunaj).

Slovenian in Styria, Austria

There are also Slovenes living in the Austrian Bundesland Styria (Steiermark), about 2,000. Contrary to the Carinthian Slovenes, they have no minority rights.

Slovenian in Hungary

There are about 3.000 Slovenes living in the area called Slovensko Porabje (near the Raba river) in Hungary, to be precise in nine villages. This is at the place where Austrian, Slovene and Hungarian border come together. There is also a Hungarian minority in Slovenia. The term Vend is used in Hungary to define this Slovenian ethnic group.
