Finnish in Sweden

There is sizable finnish minority in Sweden, long time ignored. There are finnish throughout Sweden, but they are certainly the native inhabitants in the Torneo valley, Tornedal, where they speak a variety of Finnish called Tornedalian Finnish or Meänkieli (our language). Tornedalian is spoken by 35-45 000 people in the region and by some 75 000 scattered all over Sweden. The numbers are estimations and include speakers with active and receptive competence. Some perhaps 25-35 000 in the region use Tornedalen Finnish as an everyday language.
