Hupa

The Hupa live in Nortwest California, most of them in Hoopa Valley Reservation. In 1990 there were only 93 elderly speakers out of 1,100 ethnic Hupas. There are several subgroups among them, and we have placenames from the Tsnungwe Tribe, located on the Trinity River, South Fork of the Trinity River, and New River.

Hupa

Cahto

The Kato or Cahto language is virtually extinct. According to SIL, there were only 10 speakers out of an ethnic group no bigger than 100 people in the 80's. They have a reservation in Laytonville and lived formerly in Cahto Valley and Long Valley. Kato is more related to the Wailaki and Sinkyone languages than to Hupa.

Kato

Kato edo Cahto herriaren hizkuntza laster hilko da: SIL institutuaren arabera, 10 hiztun zahar besterik ez ziren geratzen 100 laguneko taldean 80etan. Erreserba bat daukate Laytonville herrian eta lehen Cahto Valley eta Long Valley haranetan bizi ziren. Hizkuntza hau Wailaki eta Sinkyone hizkuntzetatik gertuago dago, Hupa mintzairatik baino,

Wailaki

The Wailaki live in Round Valley Indian Reservation, at Covelo, California. However, their language, which had in the past distinct dialects known as Lassik and Kekawaka, is dead. Their language was very close to that of the Sinkyone,

Wailaki

Wailaki herria bizi da Round Valley erreserban, Covelo herrian. Hala ere, beren hizkuntza hila dago. Iraganean dialekto berezituak ere bazituen mintzaira hark, Lassik eta Kekawaka izenez ezagutzen zirenak. Sinkyone herriaren hizkuntzatik gertu zegoen mintzaira hau.

Sinkyone

The Sinkyone people lived in Northern California, roughly divided in two tribes the Lholhankok or Bull Creek Sinkyone in southern Humboldt county, in present day in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and south of them, the Shelter Cove Sinkyone also in northern Mendocino county. Their language was closest to that of the Wailaki. Massacred by colonizers in the 1850s, diminished from 2,000 to less than 100 around 1920, and their language died. Our placenames are from the Lholhankok variety.

Sinkyone

Sinkyone herria bi taldetan zegoen banatua: Lholhankok edo Bull Creek Sinkyone iparraldean, Humboldt konterrian, egungo Humboldt Redwoods natur parkearen lurretan, eta handik hegoalderago Shelter Cove Sinkyone jendea, Mendocino konterrian barneratuz. Wailaki mintzairatik oso gertu zegoen hizkuntza hau. Kolonizatzaileek ia denak hil zituzten 1850aren inguruan, eta 100 ere ez ziren geratzen 1920 inguruan. Haiekin galdu zen hizkuntza, jakina. Gure toki izenak Lholhankok barietatekoak dira.
