South Africa

In the post-apartheid, multiracial South Africa, eleven languages (Afrikaans, English, Ndebele, Pedi, Sotho, Swazi, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda, Xhosa, and Zulu) hold official status under the 1993 constitution, and a further 11 (Arabic, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Portuguese, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu) are to be promoted and developed. However, in maps and elsewhere, still only English names appear most of the times, with Afrikaans names coming second.

Looking at maps, apparently only these indo-european languages have rights to appear in cartography... The linguistic apartheid has not ended in the maps. The following is a list of twin names officially recognised in English and Afrikaans for several places.

Many names with cardinal references just vary on that, so the first mini-table is provided just as an example. The other tables comprises names of places that do vary.

Ingelesa / Afrikaans

Paperezko ofizialtasun hutsetik haratago, soilik hizkuntza hauek dute, itxura batean, mapetan irteteko nahikoa duintasun. Napartheid toponimikoa, han eta hemen... Ofizialki forma "publiko" bikoitza duten (Ingelesa/Afrikaans) zenbait tokiren zerrenda bat daukagu hemen.

Herri askoren izenetan, bariazioa puntu kardinalaren izenera mugatzen da (adibide soil batzuekin osatu dugu lehen taulatxoa). Beste taulan ageri diren izenak forma desberdina duten biztanle-unitateetakoak dira.
