In addition to attacking Mixed Martial Arts, Senator John McCain is one of the driving forces behind the forced expulsion of Native Americans from their land in Arizona. At this time, the U.S. military (at the requst of Senator Mc Cain and big business) is stealing their livestock and demolishing their homes on the behalf of multinational energy corporations, despite court rulings and treaties that make these actions ILLE AL. So while he waves the flag and talks about "freedom" and "democracy", he attacks not only MMA fans, but entire populations of innocent people who, like any one of us, are simply trying to earn a living and live in peace. I wonder how many people on the reservations watch the UFC? Remember, it was Native peoples in Canada (Mohawk Nation) that stood up against the Canadian government and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in order for a mixed martial arts event to take pl ce, despite huge financial risks and threats of arrest and violence against them by the authorities for doing so. Let's also remember that about 90% of the martial arts styles in existance today were developed by people resisting oppression. Food for thought...

It is hypocritical to ban mixed-martial arts tournaments while allowing, for example: boxing, hockey fights, bull-riding, calf-roping - and even soccer (research suggests that repeated heading of a soccer ball is associated with neurological damage). How can they justify showing pornorgaphy when you can not view a ma tial arts event on pay perview. Check out Fightworld.com or Fcfighter.com and read about the contraversy instigated by SEG. They are leaning on Superbrawl Promoter T.J. Tompson to not use Tank in his event. This is bad for Superbrawl and bad for the sport. This compromises the professio al integrity of SEG and the UFC. A big part of this sport is exposure, and athletes being able to compete in various events is good for the fans. I hope this isn't a scheme by SEG to hinder "competition," because they can use such tactics with IVC, Extrem Challenge and other events. It is this policy of blacking out other events that has cost the UFC and PPV fans the opportunity to see athletes such as Mark Kerr. Let them know that cooperation is important for growth, and being one of the biggest names in the sport they have to lead the charge.

This a response(or at least a "state of the middle weight class")to Santoro's "Top Fighters" list. And although this post response will focus on the middle weights,I would like to congratulate Enson Inoue on his recent arm-bar tap-out victory over Randy outure, a very worthy oponent in his own right. I really felt Inoue had a chance, as he seems to do well against wrestlers(even world class). I 'm sure Randy can handle a defeat, as he is a true sportsman and competitor, and will be back. Now, the way I see the middle weights: 1. Frank Shamrock - Even if Shamrock were to suffer a defeat right now he'd still be #1. Now that's domination, being that far ahead of your competitors. He has the resolve to beat Vitor, and his submission game encompasses both the upper and lower bod attacks. He WANTS to be the best, and, thus, is so. He has a strong stand-up game and it seems to be getting stronger. I see Frank Shamrock on top of this division, easily, for at least the next 20 months(2 years might be pushing it since not only people will be getting more familiar with him, he may see some rematches, and mostly bec use he has made mention of getting into other ventures(business, I think.) 2. Vitor Belfort - At this weight Belfort makes a bid for #1 but is young and thinking about making commitments to the Brazilian Olympic boxing team. He probably does have thorough ground skills, in addition to his lighting fast fists that anyone in the game would have a tough time trying to match(notice I didn't say "defending themselves from"), but I have to believe his good ground skills(BJJ oriented) aren't as well rounded(in attack)as say Shamrock's. If he makes his commitment to this sport, and ta es a couple of tougher opponents for "warm-ups", then he might come in ready for Shamrock, though that would be a task. 3. Jerry Bohlander - This guy is a damn good fighter coming in at #3, but there is no way in the world anyone(sorry,Jerry)could possibly learn as many moves as his Shamrock mentors (primarily Ken)can teach him(well, ok , maybe it is possible but you know hat I'm saying, right?). This guy could spoil a lot of heavyweight's days and give Vitor a serious challege for #2. Heck, now that I think about it Bohlander could be a tie for the #2 spot, hmmm... Unfortunately, I have not allowed myself enough time to finish this response as I must go to my classes(I'm a college student)now. I have a question though, does this time limit mean it's a draw? ha-ha joke. Look for a response on the heavyweights towards the beginning of next week.

This is a response to the Erikson v. Ruas post. I would put my money on Erikson by ground strikes at about 10-12 minutes. Ruas is a master tactician but his intensity and aggression is way to low. IMO he'd be overwhelmed by Erikson's strength and size. Er kson is no Paul Varlens. He has tons of ability and is a world class wrestler. He'd close the distance and pound on Ruas. Marco would manage to escape several times but the most offense that he'd be able to muster is leg-kicks and some counter strikes. Er kson would press and score a take down, and pound away. The way I see it Ruas would have to initiate. He'd have to try and isolate Erikson leg which would force Erikson to attack from an awkward position. Ruas would then be able to lock him out. But cons dering Marco's passiveness and what we saw against Otsuka, it would be Erikson that would initiate and Ruas would be on the defensive and in an awkward position.

Contact Video stores that carry the UFC. Thank them for providing a way for MMA fans to see the sport they love in light of the PPV ban. Suggest that they pick up other PPV MMA events that have taken place(EFC 1-4 and MARS). Tell them that these events ar of the production quality of the UFC and has the same level of competition. This will expand awareness of the sport and broaden the market for future MMA releases.

I'm entirely new to this board but not MMA. So I am interested in hearing peoples opinions on a Marco Ruas vs. Tom Erickson fight, IF it "did" happen. Who's the winner, and why? My opinion is Ruas because he has so much more experience, an ability to stay calm when in a situation of compromise ("trouble"), and I feel that he can maintain a better pace throughout a long fight. True Erickson is a top notch fighter, but I feel tha he will lack the tools to finish someone of Ruas' character. I think Ruas is the winner by submission approaching the 12:00 minute mark or more (I'm theorizing this is a 30 minute time limit, with 10 minute rounds). Erickson would have a good showing bu make a wrestler's mistake. Ruas is the winner 7 times out of 10, and Erickson gets the draw on 3 out of 10. I would value input on this topic and other upcoming fights. It can be just a hypothetical fight or scheduled event. Let's keep it intelligent in any case, OK. Please E-mail me and/or post your opinions on this board. Let's get it on!

I feel that the impeccable safety record of the UFC and other MMA events should be more than enough to get the sport sanctioned by the same commisions that sponser boxing and other "legitimate" sports. It is rank hypocracy for those individuals such as s nator McCain to criticize MMA events, and at the same time ignore all of the dozens(if not hundreds) of deaths that have occured in the boxing ring. I am curious as to why bullriding is not attacked as viciously by the people who lobby against the UFC. ere is a sport in which one contestant is utterly helpless against his adversary(the bull), who goal is the destruction of the other contestant(the rider). Every time I have watched one of those events someone almost always gets seriously injured, whethe the injury be getting trampled, gored by the bull`s horns, or a myriad of other injuries. This sport has the worst safety record of all sports and no one seemes to make any effort to have them stopped. Tell me why we can watch people gettiong shot dead on the evening news but there is a problem when two professional athletes step into the Octogon to participate in a centuries old sport which happened to be in the very first Olympics? I feel that people like senator McCain who want to ban these events s ould focus all of that time and energy to a more worthwhile cause. To have a member of Congress take the time to appear on Larry King Live in order to rant and rave about how terrible the UFC is; this helps explain why America has such a large national ebt a whole host of other problems. Elected officials should spend more time running the country and helping to remedy the nations ills rather than becoming a censor of sporting events. Well, Ive said enough. Long live the UFC!

I am a die-hard fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and believe in the idea of mixed martial arts practice. Why limit yourself, when one of the principles taught by most martial arts is to have an open mind in the first place? Choice is one of th freedoms of this country, and practice of the martial arts should be no exception. I have not been in martial arts for 2 years now, because I didn't believe in the idea of having to stick to my own style. Why not use a certain principle or technique if t is better than something you know? Mixed martial arts can will make us all better not only for ourselves, but for us all. Sharing of techniques between styles could bring martial artists together. I am currently looking for a style that allows integr tion of other styles, and as soon as I do, you can bet I'll be right back into it. Thank you for fighting in a cause I believe in.

Also...Another main reason the UFC is being shunned away is because most of the Tae Kwon Do and Karate guys got beat very badly and do not want their art tarnished (or the truth prevailing). They do own the majority of the martial arts schools in America. ...CONSPIRACY THEORY #1.

Im from the east bay near San Fransisco, Some bonehead stopped showing the UFC fights out here. Now, about 150 of us cram into one little bar to watch it. My question how does the goverment have the right to take away something that we pay for anyway. Pay per view is a way for parents to monitor what there kids are watching, so what about the adults who are entertained, or practice the arts. We are "responible enough to pay that idiot through our cable bill, pay taxes and VOTE, but were not "smart" enough o know what we want to watch? Isn't this against an ammendment or something ? Let me know what I can do.

I just wanted to voice my support of full-contact fighting exhibitions. I think the reason people want to ban it is because of it's threat to their financial profits rather than the risk to its participants. The fighters know the risks involved when they ign on. If they are willing to take the risks, than who are we to argue their decision.

Why hasn't Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan, or Steven Segal been approached? The logic is easy : If they don't support the sport we don't support their movies...We could use a big frontman like that. Also, a class action lawsuit should be brought against all of the cable companies for violating our 1st amendment rights-and we're paying for it monthly! I find it ironic that martial arts is legal and classified as a sport but we just can't watch it. I can list other sports that are ten times as dangerous and they re glorified (ie. car racing, sky surfing and the other "extreme sports" shown on MTV). Maybe if UFC became more financially lucrative to the fighters, promoters and managers, they would be able to influence the politicians more the same way boxing has. M ybe what should be done is to do away with the pay per view channels and go directly to one of the sports channels. Also, the events can be broadcast for free and sponsored by big advertisers (ie. budwiser in boxing). Subscribers should also call their l cal cable companies to complain and avoid pay per viewing any other movies or events. My best wishes and support in the fight against censorship in the greatest and most athletic sport of all time.

Like the sight, will join soon. I think another thing that needs to be addressed is getting some kind of "bush league" in our sport. Right now there are only two classes of mixed martial artist: the best and their chumps. We need a AAA league where up-and-comers (like me) who can't afford to train and fight full-time can slug it out. If you agree, drop me a line - enough intrest could generate a website!

Me, again! I really detest the martial artists who criticize the UFC for violence and not representing the martial arts. I especially hate Kathy Long, that stuck-up and very vain female kickboxer who wants revenge against all males. In one issue of Bla k Belt magazine, she wrote an article saying that the UFC and other such events were innapropriate and wrong. She also said that if it's banned, "Life's unfair." What does that bitch know??!!! I'd like to show her what's unfair. I'd like to see Tank A bott smash her make-up wearing face in. Also she said the martial artists representing their styles suck. She has ignored the great athletes like Royce Gracie, Dan Severn, Don Frye, Mark Coleman, and Maurice Smith, just to name a few. I'd like to see G acie or Coleman fight her. They'll put her on the ground where her fancy kicks won't work. Now that's entertainment!
