Magnus Norman is one of the new breeds of rising tennis superstars. He is biggest breakthrought came when he celebrated his 21st birthday by beating Pete Sampras in the 3rd round of the 1997 French Open to reach the 4th round and beat 15th seed Marc Rosset of Switzerland but eventually lost in the quarterfinals to Filip Dewulf of Belgium. He also beat Goran Ivanisevic in the 2nd round of the 1997 Wimbledon Open in a five-set thriller. He was a doubtful starter in the 3rd round when he experienced irregular heartbeats but was given the go signal by British doctors to play. He later on lost! He will eventually become a strong contender in the future.
In 1998, he had his good games and bad game and too bad that his ranking went down to 52 because of his bad performance in the latter part of the year. Wish him luck in 1999.
