The Houston Colt .45s 1963 Baseball Replay

Houston goes 18-12 in July

The Houston Colts rebounded from their June swoon by winning 18 of 30 in July, led by the bat of rookie Rusty Staub (above) who hit .371 with 19 RBI in July. The .45s are now 52-56 for the season, in eighth place, only 11 1/2 games out of first. Los Angeles and Philadelphia start August in a dead heat, both teams having a 63-44 record. St. Louis is 2 and a half behind, while the defending NL champs, San Francisco, have climbed to only 5 back. Milwaukee continues to ride strong seasons from Hank Aaron and Eddie Mathews to a 57-51 mark and a solid fifth place. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati continue to disappoint, as both teams struggle to climb over .500. Houston is in eighth but only a game and a half behind the sixth place Pirates. The Cubs are in ninth, two games behind the Colts, while New York at times looks worse than last years team that went 41-119. The Mets have lost 27 of their last 30, including losing streaks of 16 and 9 games in July.

This replay is being done on the Diamond Mind Computer Baseball Game. I am using the actual lineups for all games except for Houston, there I am managing all aspects of the team. I am maintaining the 40 man roster and making the decisions as to who to draft or send to the minors, etc. I am also evaluating all trades made by Houston in real life and deciding whether or not to make the same deals, using criteria that was available to baseball men at the time.
