Ellen Chester

My name is Ellen Chester, and I have been married to Tom, a research chemist, for almost 37 years.  We have two children.  Our daughter, Carolyn, graduated from the DAAP (Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning) program at the University of Cincinnati in June, 1997 and is a graphic designer.  She and Greg Wilson were married in August, 2004 and live in Chicago.  Our son, Stephen, graduated in May, 2001 from  Miami University (in Oxford, Ohio) with a degree in Management Information Systems, and works for an insurance company in Van Wert, Ohio.  Stephen was married June, 2003 to Michelle, and they live in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

I was originally trained as a teacher but chose to be a "stay at home" mother.  During this time I was very involved in a number of community activities including holding a number of positions in the children's school PTAs, Kindervelt (an auxilliary of Children's Hospital Medical Center), and my church.

In 1995, I co-founded the Queen City Sampler Guild (Cincinnati, Ohio).  In 1997, I established an internet sampler support group, The Sampler Band.  I am also a member of The Embroiderers' Guild of America.

Needlework is my passion.  I am particularly interested in samplers and sewing accessories--not only in stitching them, but also in reading about their history.  In the spring of 1999, my life took on a new aspect as I began to do a little bit of designing under the company name With My Needle.

The design and set-up of this site was a gift from my son for Mother's Day, 1997. The original intent was a place to "showcase" some of my needlework for my stitching friends from all over. As you can see, the original scope has expanded. Who knows what the future will bring?
