 1.  John Buchanan Lamasters, born June 01, 1859 in Morgan Co.,KY; died September 01, 1936 in Raleigh Co.,WV.  He was the son of 2. Francis Marion Lemaster and 3. Rosanah Fannin.  He married (1) Mary Ann (Polly) Gullett Bet. 1875 - 1877 in Probably Rowan Co.,KY.  She was born Abt. 1849 in

Notes for John Buchanan Lamasters:
John listed his age on the Fayette Co., WV marriage application 2/21/1892 as 32 and Lucinda listed her age as 21. John listed his parents as Marian and Rosana and Lucinda listed her parents as Peter and Mary. The names were probably written by the clerk on the application. The last name was listed as Lamaster. John's children, by his first wife Mary, also listed Lamaster and Lamasters on their marriage applications in Fayette Co., WV. Several of the eldest daughters listed their mother as Mary and father as John  on marriage applications. John Buchanon Lamasters was a coal miner and staunch supporter of the coal mine unions. He also was a member of the WV National Guard and listed on his application that his mother had died of consumption.. This fits the family stories passed down of his being orphaned at a young age. The story was told of his mother being without food and having two small sons to care for after Francis Marion Lemaster was shot in the Civil War. Rosanna stole or was given food from a small storage building that they stayed near or in. She tried to blow in John's face and kiss him to try and get him to eat bits of corn and whatever else they could fint for nurishment. Rosanna was supposed to have brought the boys back to Ky in a wagon. Whether she got this or borrowed this remains unknown. I do not know if she went south to try and find the body of Francis Marion Lemaster or not.

In the 1870 Carter CO., KY. Census the boys, William and John, were at the home of David Blair and Rebecca (Fannin) Blair. Rebecca was Rosanna Fannin's older sister and the boys maternal aunt.

National Archives Information For Civil War Service:
Confederate AR 7 TH Infantry Company C.-Enlisted July 26,1861 at Camp Shaver, AR / Service File at National Archives Contains 1 Eenvelope, 5 Muster Cards, And A Reference Card. AUG 21- OCT 31,1861 Stuard (Steward) in hospital; DEC 31, 1861 sick in quarters; MAR-APRIL 1862; deserted on June 16,1862; then a prisoner; shot by sentence of a court martial JULY 7, 1862. The reference card is to General Order 24, Army of Mississippi, Major General William J. Hardee. The reference card list name as Francis M. Lemaster. I have not looked into the General Order 24 mentioned or into the Confederate Medical  Records that might list some more information on people that helped in caring for sick and wounded or were doctors during the Civil War.

The individual companies that were to become the regiment of the 7th Ar Infantry were formed in June 1861. The 7th Ar was the leading unit of attack at the Battle of Shiloh and earned the name the bloody 7th. They were the unit that surprised the Union Camp and captured all the new Enfield rifles. After General Grant regrouped and attacked and defeated the Confederates over the next two days the Confederate Army was in retreat towards MS. A man in the regiment refused to go on guard duty because his one year of service time at enlistment was up. This was.later during the retreat towards MS. He was arrested and shot. He was originally to be shot in front of the regiment but they shot him the night before. Over 20 percent to 30 percent of the regiment deserted the next several days. Francis M  Lemaster was one of 3 men later tried and shot over these desertions. Others that had deserted at the same time had either gotten away or rejoined the regiment. I understand the reasoning behind the desertions for the principle of the time being up and the court martial and shooting of the first man causing the desetions. My sense of duty does conflict with the desertions though. It must have been hard on those men also to decide to stay or desert. The records of a lot of these men do show them as being enlisted in July even though they formed in June.

Children of Francis Lemaster and Rosanah Fannin are:
  i. William Jasper LeMasters, born June 23, 1856 in Miners Creek, (Morgan or) Rowan Co, KY5; died February 02, 1929 in Bellwood, Fayette Co., WV; married Julia Etta Jones July 20, 1879 in Greenup Co., KY; born August 1863 in KY; died June 26, 1938 in Bellwood, Fayette Co., WV.
1 ii. John Buchanan Lamasters, born June 01, 1859 in Morgan Co.,KY; died September 01, 1936 in Raleigh Co.,WV; married (1) Mary Ann (Polly) Gullett Bet. 1875 - 1877 in Probably Rowan Co.,KY; married (2) Lucinda Ellen Gullett February 21, 1892 in Fayette Co., WV.

Generation No. 3

 4.  Lancaster Lemaster, born 1805 in Knox Co., KY; died Aft. 1860.  He was the son of 8. Eleazer Lemaster and 9. Rachel Ramey.  He married 5. Rachel Phillips March 30, 1824 in Floyd Co., KY.
 5.  Rachel Phillips, born 1797 in VA; died Aft. 1860.  She was the daughter of 10. John Phillips and 11. (Rebecca) Jane Buchannan.

Notes for Lancaster Lemaster:
Lancaster Lemaster patented 50 acres of land on Paint Creek, date of survey September 17, 1824. Lancaster and James, his brother, bought of John Ramey on October 25, 1827, 100 acres on Paint Creek for $470.00. On April 29, 1829 James deeded all of his interest to Lancaster. Lancaster sold on January 8, 1834 to Joseph Salyer for $100.00, 50 acres on waters of Mud Lick. Lancaster had purchased this of Spencer Hill. This was probably a part of the Spencer Hill's survey under warrant #3353, a large part of which was sold by Spencer January 10, 1924.
