Archery

Archery dates back to primative times, and is probaly the oldest form of skilled hunting.  Archery became very popular with victorian women as a sport and past time.  Today archery has grown beyond just hunting and a wealthy past time.  It is a wonderful family sport that just about anyone can do.  Young and old alike can participate and enjoy this great sport.

There are basically three groups of archery, the Primitave, the Traditional, and the Compound.  The Primitave group generally shoot self bows with no shelf, and shoot strictly wooden arrows.  The Traditionals shoot either a long bow or recurve, wooden or aluminium arrows.  The Compound group shoot compound bows with aluminium or carbon arrows, they may or may not use sights or mechanical releases.  The compound group can be further broken down according to what all they use to shoot, I won't go into all that. There is another style of shooting, Olympic Style. This is an interesting combination of compound and traditional. Olympic style consists of shooting a recurve (usually a high dollar take down) with fingers, however, you can use a rest, and stablerizers and carbon arrows, and a sight. The only thing you can not use is a peep site or a mechanical release.

Click on on the links below to read our own archery stories and get some great information. I have searched the internet far and wide, and made tons of phone calls and road trips to various places and managed to put together quite the list of 3-D shoots for the state of Pennsylvania. Be sure to check it out! If your club's shoot schedule is not on my list send it to me and I will add it. Be sure to include directions to your club, and possibly a contact phone number. This is a great way to get your club shoot dates out there for other shooters to see. I know we have gone to some new places that we did not know about until I found them on the web.
