This is for my 3 1/2 year old daughter...Natalie Brunett.
Please listen to my warning...
Hi, My name is Stephanie Clark and I have a short story for you.
This is what drugs has done to my daughter. Let me explain...
My daughter, Natalie Kirsten Brunett was in a serious car accident on December 13, 1998 at 6:15 P.M. with her father, my ex-husband, Shannon Patrick Brunett. He had her for visitation. Despite my fight to get supervised visitation indefinately, he still got visitation after the supervised visitation. This is what she and I have to deal with now. Below you will see some pretty bad pictures, but I feel it is important for people to know what happened and possibly why. Shannon passed on a double yellow line on a hill...when he got to the top, he hit a lady...Betty Short head-on. Needless to say, they were all flown by helicopters to Columbus, Ohio hospitals and they were all in serious/critical condition. Shannon was on a breathing machine with 17 bone fractures in his face, he lost part of his teeth and his front gums were missing, plus, he lost his short term memory. He went face first into the windshield...he was not wearing a seatbelt. Natalie was in a booster seat, but he did not have the lap part of the chair on her, just a seatbelt...she also went into the windshield. She suffered multiple lacerations to the face, underarm, & chest area, she also had two lacerations to her liver, bruised lungs, and two broken legs. Betty had a broken vertabrae, broken wrist, and a broken arm...she then, while in the hospital, had a lung collapse and she got pneumonia. I am not sure of her condition now or Shannon's. Natalie is home. Shannon had marijuana in the car and he was under the influence of it. Natalie is home now. She may or may not be physically scarred for the rest of her life, but she will be emotionally scarred from this accident that should not have even happened. She remembers everything that happened before, during, and after the accident. My whole point in putting this on the net is to let people know how irresponsible some people can be by: driving stupid, smoking dope before or while driving, driving under the influence of other drugs or alcohol, or just simply not paying any attention. Accidents like this can be prevented and I hope my message reaches a big part of people. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but I honestly think people should get the idea. I also want people to know that the system doesn't always work the way it should. Just do what you can to prevent misfortunate accidents like this from happening. Thank you. These are pictures of the car and what my daughter, Natalie Kirsten Brunett, looks like now.
Here are some pictures to help you understand...

There has been some updates on Natalie's condition and her father's that I am going to add now. Natalie has developed a cyst under her left arm and she may have to have it removed. They have not decided yet. Her father, Shannon, is now out of the hospital. He does have a broken leg and his muscle grew back wrong. They have to detach each muscle, realign, then reattach the muscle. As far as Betty Short, I do not know anymore information at this point in time. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has sent beanies and other gifts to Natalie. We appreciate everything you are doing. It really cheers her up. It's nice to see a smile on her face. Here soon I am going to take a picture of her with her gifts she received since this accident and for Christmas and I will add it to this page. Please keep praying for her. And I have one special thank you that needs to be added to this page. That is to Alma, also known as Chops1 on eBay...I owe you all the gratitude and thanks anyone can give, without your help no one would know about what has happened to my little girl.
Once again, everyone...we thank you for your prayers and your gifts. Please be careful. God bless you!
Here are some recent pictures of her with her toys she got for Christmas and the toys she's been receiving from everyone. We do thank you. The gifts are helping...look at her smile now. :)
Here is a more recent picture of Natalie. It was taken on January 25th, 1999. In this picture is Natalie and I (her mother). Her cyst is disappearing just as mysteriously as it appeared. Still waiting to go back to the doctor. I will update as her condition becomes even better. Thanks again everyone. We really appreciate your gifts. You are truly all angels. God bless and take care.
Natalie goes back on February 3rd to see if she can get her cast off, because her skin is getting irritated from the cast. I'm praying that this works. She has developed a new lump and it's just left of her spine. This is causing concern, so we are monitoring it to make sure it gets no bigger. I will keep you updated. Thanks again for all your thoughtfulness. God bless.
Natalie got her cast off on February 3rd. She can move her legs very minimally. Her right leg is swollen. She is doing fine. She's strong and I'm sure she will be walking before too long. They give her one month to walk on her own, if she doesn't she will have to go through physical therapy. I'm praying for the best. The lump on her back, they are not sure about, but nothing shows up on X-Ray. So I have to watch it and make sure it doesn't get any bigger. Thank you all for your concern and God bless.
Natalie is walking very good. She's actually running now. She has recovered very well physically. Now we have to work on her emotional healing. I guess it is now in the prosecuting attorney's hands and I hope he chooses fairly. I will update more when I can. Thank you for your continued support and interest in this terrible situation.
December 1999....update....Natalie is doing great. Other than the scars she has on her face, you would never know she was in this condition. I've been having problems with her father stalking me. I now have a protection order against him, but he has supervised visitation. Please pray on this situation. Below is a pic of Natalie and I at Christmas.
Update March 2000
Natalie is doing great. Having problems with her not listening and breaking out of the house. She's been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), but they will not treat her until she gets in school and the teacher agrees that she has it. This is a bad situation, because she won't sit still long enough to learn anything. I'm just glad I still have my beautiful little girl. She's still having supervised visitation with her father. We have a court date next month for the supervised visitation and I will update then. Thanks again for your continued concern. Here's another picture of Natalie. It was taken on March 18, 2000. The man she is pictured with is Vito, my fiance. My two beautiful angels, here they are...
I would like to thank my family and friends for helping us through this difficult time and for supporting us when we needed help. God bless everyone!
