Betty's GSD report from Dr John Fyfe D.V.M. Ph.D
Betty is not a carrier of Glycogen Storage Disease

Betty finished her CH with 3 majors, but her real star quality is in the quality puppies she produced. My foundation bitch. Betty had 2 litters at SoftMaple, easily earning her ROM and ROMX. Betty passed along many of her wonderful characteristics and her wonderful temperament.

Among her titled offspring to date she has 8 Conformation Champions; 6 Junior Hunters; 1 Senior Hunter: One Master Hunter; One WCX; 6 WC's; One NAHRA Started Retriever; One Companion Dog, One Novice Agility Dog; One Novice Agility Jumpers With Weaves; 1 AKC Open Agility titled dog; 3 UKC Champions; 2 Therapy Dog Internationals; 2 CGC's, and many more that are pointed or well on their way to a field or agility title.

Betty is mom to two Sarona Jacob of Marvadel & Sarona Sam of Marvadel Memorial Field Trophy Award Winners. Jet in 2001 and 2003, and Chippy (Ch. Ptarmigan Song of Hiawatha, JH, WCQ) in 2004.

I think when all is said and done, Betty will be behind more performance, field, and awesome companion dogs than any other curly around.

Betty is mother of the first curly with a Championship to earn a Master Hunter. She is mom to the only Curly with an obedience title with a MH to date. She is also grandmother to the first liver bitch to win a group one.

About the Book

Follow a litter of puppies from birthday until they go to their new homes. The diary contains lots of pictures, tips on puppy rearing, some breed specific information, and lots of information on the care of any breed of dog.

I started doing an on-line puppy diary since many of the people that would be getting one of my pups would not be able to travel here to see the pups. I did not want to put a bunch of cute puppy pictures online, and encourage anyone to have a litter just because they wanted to see cute puppies! Breeding dogs, if done the right way, is a lot of work. Lost sleep and sometimes heartache. It takes a lot of time, effort and money to raise a litter of puppies. Once I started doing The Puppy Diary, I realized I had a captive audience. These people logged on every day to see the pictures, and read what was happening. I used this opportunity to cram as much education into each day as I could. Health, Coat issues, grooming, feeding, socializing, vet care, puppy evaluations, shipping puppies.... you name it! I tried to put it in The Diary. It was suggested that I make it into a book. Well here it is! There are 560 pictures and over 300 pages of living with and watching one litter grow up.

I am sure may conscientious, caring breeders raise litters similar to the way I do. Its is a good look into the time, money, commitment it takes to bring up a litter of pups. Some of the things that go on behind the scenes, that the eventual puppies owners (family), never realize go into the litter. Enjoy my litter as I see them. Day to day

Curly-Coated Retriever Information

In our limited breeding program, most of our pups are placed in loving companion homes where they are never shown. A large breeding/showing kennel where the dog will be out every weekend with a strange handler, then sitting in a kennel when his show career is over isn't what I want for my dogs. Placing one of our pups in the best possible environment is first and foremost. The best environment is with a family, living in the house, participating in all activities, be it hunting, therapy, hiking, swimming, camping...whatever that family does for recreation. I do encourage the new owners to at least enroll in the basic levels of obedience, so they have a well behaved pet. If the owners then decide on perusing performance of conformation titles, that's great. I started in the world of pure bred dogs when I was a kid by taking our family companion to obedience classes. I got hooked on the sport! Competitive obedience, tracking, agility or hunt tests can strengthen the bond between you and your dog. As long as you keep it fun for both of you!
