Besides "All About Eve", my favorite Anne Baxter movie is 1944's "The Fighting Sullivans". This movie about brothers who go off to World War II. Anne plays Katherine Mary Sullivan, who is married to Al, one of the Sullivan boys. The film also stars Thomas Mitchell, Selena Royle, and Ward Bond.
Another one of my favorite movies is 1953's "I Confess". This Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece stars Montgomery Clift as Father Michael Logan. In confession, a man says how he robbed a house and killed the owner. But then police begin to suspect Father Logan, who cannot say who the real killer is. This thriller is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies! It also stars Karl Malden and Brian Aherne.
In 1956, Anne starred in Cecil B. De Mille's Biblical saga, "The Ten Commandments". Anne plays the Egyptian queen Nefritiri, opposite Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Yvonne De Carlo, Edward G. Robinson, and Vincent Price. The film was nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture.
Although Anne was only her her 30's, she was having a hard time finding work. In the next few years, she only made about a dozen films before switching over to television. She starred in several made-for-TV movies and several series. Perhaps her most famous television series was "Hotel" which she started to work on in 1983. She continued her role as Victoria Cabot until 1985. On December 12, 1985, Anne Baxter died from a stroke. She was 62 years old.
