1996 OBD-II DTC Comparisons

This page is a comparison of the 1996 Dodge Dakota On-Board Diagnostics Trouble Codes with those of previous years. There were several points that make the comparisons difficult.

  • 1996 DTC descriptions are listed along with a Hex Code. There is a one-to-one relationship from the hex code to the description. But there isn't a reference to the Hex Codes in prior years and the manual does not state how you get the Hex Codes out of the system computer.
  • Some of the codes are now obsolete. Specifically, references to EGR valves, some air solenoids, and TBI injection are now obsolete.
  • The Chrysler Service Manual for 1996 had typographic errors or editing errors which make some of the code descriptions somewhat dubious.
