This car marked the beginning of Team 13². It definitely wasn't a fairy tale beginning.

The Polara was first spotted sitting just west of Brooten by Doug. He told me about it, and I owned it within a week. The sale price was $75. It was a one owner, 1973, 4 door hard top with 77,000 original miles on it. The battery was even holding a charge when I went to drive it home.

We have misplaced many of the Chrysler pictures, so this is the first on chronologically. We had run the heat in Pope County, but got rained out before the consolation. The car was still pretty good. Notice it is blue, before the trade mark purple was adopted.

We had already run the consolation and lost, but at this time they still ran what they called a free for all. Anybody that could get there car back on the track was eligible. Here we are doing a little body work.

The solution was near, nothing could be done by hand.

We hooked a chain up to Chris's Blazer, and jerked on that car until is was straight enough. That diesel truck sure could straighten sheet metal.

The car took quite a pounding in the free for all. The front sub frame buckled, and the motor was being held up only by the cable around the tunnel. When the car was put in reverse, the sub frame would gouge right into the ground. It still did good enough to run in the parade!
