These are the rules that we must follow in our neck of the woods.
POPE COUNTY DEMOLITION DERBY RULES
Driver must wear crash helmet and suitable eye protection.
Driver must wear seat belts. Belts must be solidly bolted to the floor or frame.
Driver's seat should have head rest.
Driver must have fully charged fire extinguisher in car within arm's reach.
All drivers and pit persons will sign a waiver relieving the Pope
County Fair Board, the County of Pope, and all officials of any
responsibility and liability in the derby contract.
If a driver or pit person is under the age of 18, they must have a
waiver of liability signed by a parent or guardian.
All cars must be stock.
Passenger cars permitted -- no convertibles or pickups.
Changes to vehicle may only be those listed on the Demolition
Derby Rules Sheet.
Driver's door must be painted white or a contrasting color that
stands out and is easily visible.
Cars must be numbered on both front doors and roof.
All doors and trunk must be welded or chained shut. NO SOLID
WELDING. Straps allowed, but no larger than 2 inches wide, and 6
inches long may be used. No more than 2 straps per door or trunk.
No sand or cement in frames --- no reinforcing of any kind will he
allowed.
No altering of suspension systems allowed. No flipped over
springs ---welded or clamped shocks -- no spring spacers, etc.
No exhaust through hood or fenders.
Hoods must have 6 inch hole on each side.
No welding of inner fender wells to outer fenders.
Rear ends may be locked.
No tires locked, glued, or screwed to rims.
No fluid or sand in tires. No solid rubber tires or foam filled.
Snow tires are permitted -- no mud tires.
Tires may not be over 4 ply DOT.
No glass in windows or lights. All glass must be out of bottom of
doors and side panels.
All mirrors and loose chrome must be removed. No trailer hitches.
No signs or ornaments allowed on cars.
Back seat must be removed -- trunk empty.
Radiator must remain in stock position.
Battery may be moved to a safe place --- must be secured and
covered with marine type box.
Stock gas tank must be removed and replaced with a special
container --no plastic tanks ---- no more than a six gallon tank ---
must remain behind driver in back seat or trunk -- must be secured
and covered.
Official in charge has the right to refuse hard body cars.
Cars must be off the fairgrounds by August 5, 1996.
ARENA RULES
No ramming of driver door or head on crashes.
No sand-bagging -- cars must make contact within one minute.
No alcoholic beverages in pits No drinking before or during the
event. Drinking will be permitted after the event in the Beer
Garden only.
Pope County Demolition Derby officials have the right to inspect
and reject any cars with no refund to disqualified entrants.
Failure to observe these rules will result in disqualification.
Official in charge has the right of promoter's choice.
EXTENDED RULES FOR BAG RACES:
ALL THE 1996 DEMOLITION DERBY RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR 4 CYL AND
REGULAR CARS ARE ENFORCED FOR THE BAG RACE CARS EXCEPT FOR THOSE
THAT ARE LISTED BELOW.
BAG RACE CARS CAN ONLY BE RAN IN BAG RACES- NOT IN THE REGULAR OR
4 CYL. RACES.
REMEMBER THAT IT IS VERY NOISY WHEN DRIVING A DEMO CAR AND THE DRIVER
AND THE PASSENGER MUST WORK OUT SOME FORM OF COMMUNICATION, SO THERE
IS NO HITTING OF DRIVERS OR PASSENGER'S DOORS.
DRIVER AND PASSENGER MUST WEAR EYE PROTECTION AND A SAFETY HELMET
(A MOTORCYCLE HELMET IS OK). DRIVER AND PASSENGER MUST WEAR A SAFETY
BELT CHAINED OR BOLTED TO THE FRAME.
DRIVER AND PASSENGER MAY NOT WEAR SHORTS.
CARS MUST BE NUMBERED ON BOTH SIDES. THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS DOOR
MUST BE FLUORESCENT GREEN WITH ONLY THE CAR NUMBER ON IT.
DRIVERS DOOR, PASSENGER DOOR AND TRUNK MAY BE WELDED SHUT BUT NOT USE
MORE THAN 2 STRAPS PER DOOR (8" LONG X 3"x 5/16"). STRAPS MAY NOT BE
WELDED TO BUMPER OR FRAME, SOLID WELDING MAY NOT BE USED, TRUNK AND
HOOD MAY USE FOUR BOLTS (1") ONE IN EACH CORNER. YOU CAN NOT USE BOTH
WELDING AND BOLTS. REINFORCEMENT OF DRIVERS AND PASSENGER DOOR NO MORE
THAN 4" BEYOND DOOR SEAMS AND NO MORE THAN ONE METAL PLATE 10" WIDE BY
1/4" THICK.
BATTERY CAN BE IN STOCK POSITION OR ON THE FLOOR IN BACK, MUST BE
COVERED IN RUBBER.
NO RAMMING OF DRIVERS OR PASSENGERS DOOR OR YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
