There is a set of towns that
were owned by Lord Clinton in the mid 1800s and still today are mostly
owned by Lord Clinton-Davis. There is a web site with the present Lords
photo at ( will fill in later). While I was there in summer of 97, I took
a few photos to document where my Devon ancesters came from. More to be
scaned in future. I have local contacts on e-mail & via post to help
aid you in local searches. One good item is the 1840 period map of Lord
Clintons property. It has the locations of homes by number. Both the Exeter
archives and another local Merton family ( see below) on Internet have
a copy of this map. the Exeter archives has a book that coordinates with
the map that tells who was living there and what assets the yard had as
well, as the rent paid.

a policy he firmly intends to continue. He also farms and has well known
forestry interests, including the Victoria Sawmills. Lord Clinton is a
past president of the Devon Cattle Breeders' Society and the Devon Closewool

new High Sherriff of Devon.
DOLTON
Dolton is the next town North West

likely fishlee & Fishley are typically same name.
