BUYER BEWARE !!

?

The following are from different sources.
Some are from my own experiences.
Remember, there are no laws watching over the Internet.
No Governing bodies that are decideding who or what can or cannot put a website up on the WWW.
It's dog eat dog, the wild west,
whatever moniker or adjective that applies to describe this hairy thing called the Internet.
Granted, after the fact, lawyers may get involved. In some cases though, (And not rare cases at that) initally it's you against those that would love nothing more than to seperate you from your hard earned money!
So, who am I to be spouting advice on how to protect one's self from the sharks ready to gobble your piggybank.
I'm Electech (Now Beamer). Don't forget that name. For I'm out to fight the good fight.
An ally. A Helper.
But I shall get off my soap box for the time being and proceed with the information. REMEMBER TO FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!

How To Avoid Bad Online Vendors

...PC WORLD Magazine. February, 1997.
  • Don't judge companies by their Web sites.
Anyone can look reputable on the Internet.
  • Get contact information other than an e-mail address.
If a Web site doesn't list a street address AND A PHONE NUMBER, ask for them. If the Company declines, PASS Them By!.
  • Check out the company yourself.
Phone first and see how your treated.
  • IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, it usually is.
Don't be fooled by the hype about miracle drugs or ridiculously low priced products.
  • Be critical of home-based business ads.
Multilevel Marketing clubs and other self employment schemes are a rapidly growing Type of online fraud.
  • Use your credit card.
If you don't feel comfortable giving out your credit card information online, then Charge by phone. Using the credit card company may be the only way for you to get your money back.
  • Speak up.
Unless you complain to your state's attorney general about rip offs, bad vendors won't be prosecuted. Sometimes the only way a fraud or ripoff is discovered is by an ordinary citizen saying what they found wrong with a site. It's part of fighting the GOOD fight.
There has been interest in knowing whether I have been ripped off or not over the Internet. No, I have not.
I am trying to be an educational link to knowledge of what is exactly out in the WWW.
It's not all a bed of roses out there, far from it and the crimnals are getting smarter and getting more help. I am running into more and more sites that may not be illeagal, but are borderline at best.
These sites offer up a variety of Hacking tools or pirated software. One Site I recently came across was huge and a lot of what it offered were Pirated Operating systems. An Operating System is the Main Software feature of your computer. Everything else runs off that.
I am afraid to venture into the Hacking sites for fear of picking up a virus. Kinda of like being around some one with a real bad cold. You might not catch anything, but why risk the chance?
I just hope that in prevention of getting ripped off in the first place, and through education of what to look for in the second place, that maybe the word will get around and the rippoff artists and hustlers of the world won't be able to prey on the good community of the Internet.
Thank you! Thank you.....no,... really, no applause, just throw money, preferably American dollars.
    Websites dealing with FRAUD
This is where you want to go to contact the National Fraud Information Center on the Internet.
If you want, you can reach them with a Toll free Phone Call at
    1-800-876-7000.
I very recently checked in on this page and asked them to please update their information on the web page. It is very difficult at times to keep up with all the changes that go on this crazy Internet.
For a virtual wealth of online sites and agencies of a very official nature along with
    • A Listing for the Attorney Genarals of each state in the U.S.A.
    • Canadian Fraud Resources for our friends to the north.
    • Internatioal Fraud Rescources.
    • The National Computer Sedurity Association
    • Resource for Credit Card Fraud.
    • Information on Charities.
    • There is a section for Senior Citizens,
