The consolidation of materials in furniture and wooden objects is a very complex item due to the fact of the numerous reasons and parts for possible consolidation.
This procedure may be carried out at a mechanical level to allow the use or exhibition of the object, without danger of collapsing. This is achieved through reinforcing certain pieces of wood, or through a process more related to the structure of the substance.
I have performed this process many times in the mechanical and structural sense. In the consolidation of the structure of the material, acrylic or polyvinilic resins dissolved in organic solvents are used. They are then applied with syringe or brush till the wood is completely damped, leaving it to dry as fast as possible to improve the tendency of the solution to flow to the surface and deposit in its neigborhood. This reinforces wood, improving its mechanical properties.
