Garland Genealogical Society

   Dear Member and Friend of Garland Genealogical Society, 

   It is with great disappointment that I am writing this letter to you.  At the 
   board meeting held on 14 May 2001, the board voted to suspend operation of 
   the Garland Genealogical Society until enough members willing to serve as 
   board members and elected officers can be found.  The board also voted to 
   refund the dues paid for next year by six of our members.  After we have met 
   our commitments, an audit completed and refunds have been paid, the remaining 
   monies will be donated to the Garland Library for purchase of Genealogy books. 

   We have tried since the first of February to find officers for next year.  We 
   were unable to find a complete slate of officers.  Our membership has dropped 
   significantly over the last few years.  It has been extremely hard to find 
   committee members and we have tried for over a year and a half to find a 
   Quarterly Editor.  A society must have participation from all its members.   
   It cannot meet the needs of the society and the community with less than a 
   handful of people who want to serve. 

   I want to thank all my board members for their hard work. I can tell you that 
   we have all worked together to make sure that there were no other 
   alternative solutions.  I challenge each of you to join another society in 
   the area.  There are many great societies to from which to choose.
