Why Save SoVF:

There are many reasons why this this game should be completed, and I'll be honest when I say that I have said them often enough. So, I have posted my SoVF Team member, David's thoughts here in this section.

I agree with every single point here that David makes, and I'm sure you will too. To put it simply, David's words tell exactly why this jewel of a game should be released.

To Anyone Who Loves Star Trek:

I just want to remind you, or maybe let you know for the first time, that there was an incredible game being made called Star Trek- Secret of Vulcan Fury (you'll see a lot of posts refer to it as SOVF or SoVF).

Why is it such a big deal? Well, for one thing all the animations of the characters in the game (the whole original series cast) was done from facial casts and you got to see a level of detail and facial expression in the charactors that gave you chills. I'm talking about the fact that they got Shatner, Nimoy, Kelley, and the "gang of four" (Scotty, Checkov, Uhura, Sulu) together and made facial casts .. molds .. of their faces .. and then used them for animation in the game. It's incredible animation and as close as you will ever get .. EVER .. to a lifelike rendition of the cast you know and love.

What else? The game's script was written by D.C. Fontana .. one of the original series script writers.

More? The game had direction from Meridith .. one of the original series directors.

Not enough? The cast didn't just lend their likeness' to the game .. all of the cast did all of the voice acting from that Fontana script for this game as well. There's been some controversy as to whether or not they were all present at the same time or whether or not Mr. Kelley did his own voice acting (he was already ill) .. but there's never been anything official to deny it (Kelley does have voice acting credits listed with the game and at the international movie database -www.imdb.com) ..

Regardless, you have Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Uhura, Checkov, Sulu .. all voice acting off of each other in the same sound booth at the same time from a Fontana script under Meridith direction .. it's as close as anyone on this planet will ever get AGAIN to a Star Trek the Original Series episode.

The non-interactive demo shipped for this game along with some other titles .. and was available at Interplay's site for a long time. It looked .. well .. it was stellar. It would give any true fan chills without any doubt. I have the various demos and am willing to post them anywhere for anyone who wants to see. I promise you that if you love Star Trek the Original Series you will be MOVED by these demos. The graphics .. years old now .. look better than any game on the market. Im talking about facial expressions like Spock raising his brow and the glitter off an eye .. you have to see it to appreciate it. A game this good should defy my description .. and it does ..

You wanna see it? .. tell me where you want me to post it ..

Interplay cancelled this title. I don't think it was malice .. obviously no company wants to do anything malicious to a customer it needs repeat business from. Not with the competition out there today. But .. in my opinion .. it was a bad business move. This game would have reaped huge money. The word would have spread and sales would have been beyond anyones expectations. No doubt the highest selling Trek game ever. Just too many features to not sell. Even if the actual GAME PLAY sucked (and Im not saying it does .. no one has played it!) .. the game has tremendous value just for historical purposes .. for the fans who love Trek .. for the gamers .. by gamers ..

Interplay will never see support like this for a game again. Thousands of people signing petitions for the game to be completed. People like Fred Drader who just wields an iron .. one directional .. unstoppable .. force of will .. defending the only logical course of action time and again .. to release .. even unfinished .. this last opportunity to see our heros in action. To hear their voices. To enjoy this script.

What if Paramount had a "lost episode" of Star Trek? .. What if they only had the voice tapes? What if Fontana just sold the script? What would that be worth to any true fan of Trek? Interplay has this and more. To repeat, they have what is fundementally the last episode of Star Trek (original series).

It's sitting somewhere .. doing nothing ..

Fans of Trek, if you haven't seen the game let me know where I can post the demo for you. If you have or you don't need to see it .. please contact Interplay .. contact Paramount .. contact any cast member .. contact Activision (they aquire the original series license soon .. tho I really doubt they'll ever bother trying to aquire SoVF from Interplay .. or if Interplay will ever sell it to them) .. contact Interplay contact Interplay contact Interplay!

Interplay .. if you will never release this to the fans I beg you to at least name your price. What will it take for you to part with this material? I really believe the fans of this epic story can find a way .. just like they did long ago .. to keep it alive for the future.

Other games take years to complete. There's so many reasons to give this to the fans. Please, Interplay .. think about what you have there and remember what it's like to be a fan. To be a gamer. Not just a business. Please. You're the only one who has this .. and the only one who can share it with the world. Don't throw it away.

-David
