Okay! I'm guilty! Before I'd even heard of bootleg recordings, I made my first boot in 1970 on cheesy 3-inch reel- to-reel tapes on a little battery recorder I borrowed from a friend of mine (thanks, Kym!). Off I was in my '64 Corvair to the local drive-in (ahhh... remember those days?!?) where they were showing Let It Be. Setting the recorder in my lap, I taped the movie off of those tiny, tinny speakers you hooked up to the window! I had to go two nights running to tape those portions I missed while flipping and changing tapes and batteries! What sound!

The following year, I came across my first "official" John Lennon bootleg LP in a dorm room at the University of Colorado. Actually, it was a Beatles bootleg. The quality of the recording was awful, but it was nonetheless outstanding! Never before heard (at least by me!) alternate cuts from the Get Back sessions and Rooftop concert and a "new" song - When You Walk. The quality was a little better than my homemade tapes of Let It Be, but not much. No matter -- I was hooked. For the better part of the next two decades (whew!),  I ran across only a few boots -- but picked them up whenever I could.

In 1988 my interest was renewed with the broadcast of the Lost Lennon Tapes radio series -- I found myself up at 6:00 a.m. every Sunday for 2+ years drinking coffee and taping. If I had it to do over again I'd tape the whole show instead of just the songs to save tape. I have 40-some tapes of the broadcast, but don't list them in my collection because the quality varies, some songs are missing the first note or two, and, most importantly, I've managed to find most everything on LP or CD since (and the first 81 radio shows on mp3). The Bag Records series is the definitive record of this broadcast. Many other bootleggers contain excerpts from this series on their own collection of Lennon home and studio tapes.

Finally, a few years back (longer ago than I like to admit already), I discovered this web thang:  I had no idea there were so many of us out there! And I've "met" some pretty nice people along the way!

Want to do some trading? (I trade only for John Lennon material, including time with The Beatles.) Have a look at my lists below. I trade CDRs and, on rare occasions, CD-ROMS. In the tables below, the following codes for my sources are used in the catalog number column: (Green= CD/CDR; Orange=LP; Red = CD-ROM[mp3]).  (I don't know why I list the LPs there... just for nostalgia's sake, I guess.) I'm always interested in upgrading from something I have only on tape to CDR, so if you see some of the "classic bootlegs" missing here, it might be because I only have them on tape, not CDR (I've quit listing those I only have on tape -- nobody trades that any more ;-).   If you see something you'd like, check out my rules/preferences.
