darling amandafans...
...well, hasn't it been a while since this page was last
updated..? apologies for that... your beloved amanda's absence from
public life can be wholly attributed to the fact that she had to finish
her darned teacher training course, rather than any desire to flee from
the bosom of her amanda-family (erm... that'd be 'you', that would... well,
you know... figuratively...). so, yes, yes, anyway... what on earth has
happened during the last six months..? and more importantly, how
have you been..? mmm..? oh, well, that's all right, then.
splendid, splendid...
finally, anyway, there is a tiny wee fragment of news from amanda
central : our second album has been recorded, and is currently seeking
its niche within the affections of the record-releasing fraternity...
imagine it, if you will, happily wandering along the streets of indietown,
optimistically tapping on doors, smiling and doffing its cap to the
pop music gentry within... it's sure to find a home soon,
isn't it..? isn't it..?! well, we hope so, anyway... not least
because the track listing is so mouth-wateringly scrummy :
1) 1600 mexico
2) tender bender
3) blood wedding
4) chasing amy
5) the prince of denmark street
6) justin frishmann
7) friends
8) loverat
9) jackson road
10) girl's world
11) you, and your mates
12) the sinking of the mary-lou
plus... there are plans afoot to do another 'swingers'-type free cdr
compilation in the near future... since there seem to be about eight or
nine amandasongs (some new, some less so), mostly fairly off-beat, which
would never otherwise get an airing... more details will follow when a
final track listing has been decided, anyway... but another free
cd, eh..? mmmm... lovely.
interestingly, it seems that 'king of shaves' (from 'swingers') seems to
have been fairly widely distributed since its release last year, and
generated something of a following... a friend of a friend told me that
they'd been in the states about a month ago, and had heard it played
several times during the week on a local indie station... aaaah, fame
and fortune surely await, and when they arrive, rest assured that
your beloved amanda won't forget her friends... before the year's out,
we'll all be driving bentleys to the dole office, i tell
you - bentleys, d'j'hear..?! (well... you know... possibly...)
finally... there are a couple of new amanda-related items at large on
the internet... you can read a lovely review of 'swingers' here, penned
by mr. didier becu, whose delightful fanzine (the original sin - an
old friend of the amanda) has recently made the transition from print to
web... we wish him well... there's also a very even-handed review of 'brave new
girl' here, not forgetting that there was an interview with your beloved amanda in
last month's edition of the pennyblack music magazine... which you can find
lovingly reproduced here.
and that's about it... there'll be updates about the free cd and the album
as soon as we have them... until which, do keep sending in the
lesson plans...
