amandanews - march 2001
dear amandafans... ...ooh, it's been bitter, hasn't it..? call this spring, because your beloved amanda certainly doesn't. brr..! anyway, anyway, how are you keeping..? sorry it's been so long since the last update, but the three main amandapeople have been engaged full-time in the following dubious activities : amandaperson 1 : training to become a teacher amandaperson 2 : also training to become a teacher amandaperson 3 : lovely new boyfriend anyone with any lesson-plans (preferably english or drama, or general primary), please e-mail them to your beloved amanda. pleeeeease. we're not kidding. and we're certainly not proud. ta. anyway, anyway, what news from amanda central..? well, see that lovely cd sleeve up there..? at the top..? well, that's the new firestation tower compilation, that is... and it's an absolute stonker. you can find full details here, but in a nutshell it's... it's... well, it's an instant tweepop/c86/indiepop record collection, really. on one cd. plus trumpets. think how nice it'd look, sitting next to your 'sarah 100' compilation and collection of 'talulah gosh' beanie-babies. mmmmmm. lovely. top tracks are 'i only ever' by vermont sugar house, 'it's a girl's world' by tompaulin and salteens' 'nice day' (which seems, to my ears, to have brilliantly smutty lyrics... although it could just be my over-active imagination... hmm..!). you'll love it, anyway. there is, of course, a spanish amanda song on there, too, the spanish amanda west london ex-wives' club (longest song-title on the comp..! cool..!), which is a bit of a curiosity... recorded as the main hard-drive at the jay-jay sefton studios was quietly disintegrating... and then painstakingly glued together again from the fragments we could salvage. there's blood and sweat in that thar song... although thankfully, not literally. still sounds a tad rough, mind. hey-ho. enjoy. we've recently been foolish enough to head back to ms. sefton's palace of unearthly delights (...and recording studio) for another session, however, laying down eight new tracks which should surface... somewhere... at some point... in the future. one of them's called 'golders hill park', which is just around the corner from where we live, and is home to north london's only wallaby. if you're passing, do pop in and say hello to him... i like to fill him in on the plot of 'neighbours'... i'm sure he gets very lonely. hey, anyway, are you legally permitted to claim you've been 'laying down tracks' if you're not actually keith richards..? not sure. regardless... the new songs are mostly autumnal little electro-pop numbers, with a typically amanda-esque dash of melancholy. just your thing. mmmm. news on actual releases and such, as and when we have it... ...until which, m'dears, amandalove to you all... - amanda x x x x x |
amandanews - january/february 2001 |
amandanews - december 2000...to tell you all that we've a bright shiny new track, "the spanish amanda west london ex-wives' club", coming out on a scrummy new firestation tower cd compilation album (title tbc). other bands featured include the wonderful tompaulin, glidshees and celeste, so it should be an utter corker. more news as and when it arrives at amanda central (formerly known as "huw's bedroom in golders green"). oh, and if you haven't downloaded your copy of 'swingers' yet, then try to do so in the next few weeks... we're still getting about 15 hits a week on the download page, but the number's shrinking and we want to use the space to whizz up a few unheard amanda mp3 rarities... and a couple of brand, spanking new songs... mmmmm... spanking... * take care of each other, now, d'j'hear..? - amanda x x x * - note : none of these songs actually include any references to spanking, okay..? ** |

amandanews - november 2000...and welcome to the delightfully revamped spanish amandapage. the big news of the moment is, of course, that our debut album ('brave new girl') has just come out on firestation tower records. i strongly urge you to purchase this fine recording for two absolutely sterling reasons : a) you'll really like it (well... you will if you like stuff like the smiths, the fieldmice and new order, anyway...) - and : b) because it will help us to recoup the several billion quid we spent recording it. huge thanks to uwe and the astonishingly pleasant folk at firestation tower, and to all the people who've already written to us with their kind words... thank you, thank you, thank you... thanks also to everyone who wrote in asking for a copy of 'swingers' (and, again, for all the positive feedback). it's now only available in mp3 format, so if anyone out there still wants a copy then i'm afraid you're going to have to spend about 5 hours on a wet sunday afternoon downloading it (from here). character-building stuff. don't despair, however, for (despite the fact that 'swingers' cost a few quid to produce and distribute) we're vaguely considering the possibility of doing the same thing in about a year's time with a spanish amanda side project, the chickpea darlings (a 4-track e.p./cdr, free to amandafans... but i can't make any promises, yet...). watch this space. another update soon. until which, amandalove to you all... - amanda x x x p.s. - mini update - 21st november - demo versions of 'fuschal' and 'working for mister banks' are out now on the 'bliss 89' compilation. click here for contact details. |
