siena's Top 100 Movie List (8/15/02)
1. One flew over
the Cuckoos nest. What can I say about this movie? Jack Nicholson in his greatest
role, Danny Devito’s first film, and a large Indian man. This is the greatest
example of symbolism ever to grace the silver screen. Lot’s of screenwriters try
to make their film have a message and fail miserably. This movie succeeds where
those failed. 2. Dr. Strangelove. Kubrick’s finest moment as a director. Peter
Sellers is magnificent in this film. The only thing better than the script was
its timing this film made a statement then that is as strong and poignant today
as it was then. 3. Silence of the Lambs. Any Director could have done a good job
with one of the most intriguing characters in the history of cinema played magnificently
by Sir Hopkins. But Jonathan Demme chills you in a way nobody has done since Hitchcock.
The music is perfect and the last scene still sends chills down my spine 4. North
by Northwest. Speaking of Hitchcock. There are so many Hitchcock movies I could
have put in the top ten. I believe this is his greatest work, yes better than
psycho. 5. Chinatown. A second Nicholson film in the top ten. Roman Pulanski directs
a throwback to the film noir pictures of the forties. 6. The Shawshank Redemption.
I first watched this film and I thought wow prison looks like fun. Morgan Freeman
was fantastic, so was Robbins, and Richie Aprile take another look for the Sopranos
character 7. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid. My favorite western of all time.
8. The Usual Suspects. Nothing usual about this movie, I have never been fooled
like this in a movie 9. Annie Hall. Not my favorite Woody Allen film, but I’m
giving it the respect it deserves. History will say it’s his masterpiece. 10.
True Romance. Greatest ensemble cast ever put together. Slater, Arquete(not the
idiot that Courtney Cox travels with), Walken, Pitt, Hopper, Rappaport, Kilmer,
Gandolfini, Chris Penn, Sizemore, Oldman and yes balchi bartochamus. Directed
by Tony Scott Written by Quentin Tarantino. 11. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
