WITHIN

Note - this pattern is written in Australian terminology (USA translation coming ... sometime ... whenever I get around to it)
The pictured square was done using 4.00mm Hook, and 3 colours of 8 ply yarn. (results in a square approx 7" in size) ... but it also works as a smaller square with 4ply cotton and 2.5mm hook (and probably works with any other size yarn/thread and hook to suit ;-) ... 2 colours works ok too (just change to the other colour when the pattern says to finish of and start using whatever colour the pattern says ... if that makes any sense )
Stitches used:
htr = yo, insert hook and pull up a loop, yo and pull through all loops on hook.
tr = yo, insert hook and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops.
dtr = yo twice, insert hook and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops.
ttr = yo 3 times, insert hook and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops.
long tr = worked the same as a normal tr but pull up a longer loop so you can work it loosely enough so it fits around the indicated stitches.
Using colour A, 5 ch and join with a slst to form a ring. 1ch.
Round 1.
Round 2.
Round 3.
Round 4.
Round 5.
Round 6.
Round 7.

Weave in all ends (if not already done so), scratch head, and wonder what on earth you are going to do with this crochet square ;-)

Using colour B, join with a dc in any 3ch space. htr in same space. *Skip next 2 sts (tr and htr). (3dtr, 1ch, 3dtr) all in next st (in the dc). Skip next 2 sts, (htr, dc, htr) in next 3ch space* . Rpt from * to * twice more. Skip next 2 sts, (3dtr, 1ch, 3dtr) all in next st (dc). Skip next 2 sts, htr in beg. 3ch space. Join with a slst to beg. dc. Finish off B.
Using colour C, join with a dc in 1st dtr before any 1ch space. 3ch. *dc in next dtr, htr in next dtr, tr in next dtr, dtr in htr, (dtr, ttr, 2ch, ttr, dtr) all in dc, dtr in htr, tr in next dtr, htr in next dtr, dc in next dtr, 3ch* . Rpt from * to * twice more. dc in next dtr, htr in next dtr, tr in next dtr, dtr in htr, (dtr, ttr, 2ch, ttr, dtr) all in dc, dtr in htr, tr in next dtr, htr in next dtr. join with a slst to beg dc. Finish off C.
Using A, join in any corner (in 2ch space between the 2 ttr) (dc, 1ch) in same space. (1tr, 1ch, 2tr) in same space. *tr in each of next 4 stitches, skip nest st (htr), 1ch, tr in next st. (dc), 1ch, skip 3ch sp, tr in next st. (dc), 1ch, skip next st (htr), tr in next 4 stitches, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) in corner 2ch sp.* rpt from * to * twice more, tr in each of next 4 stitches, skip nest st (htr), 1ch, tr in next st. (dc), 1ch, skip 3ch sp, tr in next st. (dc), 1ch, skip next st (htr), tr in next 4 stitches. Join with a slst to beg (dc,1ch). Finish off A
Using C, join with a dc in corner 1ch sp. 2dc in same sp. *dc in each of next 6 sts, skip 1ch sp and dtr in skipped htr of round 4 below, dc in next tr, 1ch, dc in next tr, skip 1ch sp and dtr in skipped htr of round 4 below, dc in each of next 6 sts, 3dc in corner sp,* . Rpt from * to * twice more, dc in each of next 6 sts, skip 1ch sp and dtr in skipped htr of round 4 below, dc in next tr, 1ch, dc in next tr, skip 1ch sp and dtr in skipped htr of round 4 below, dc in each of next 6 sts, join with a slst to beg dc. Finish off C.
Using B, join with dc in middle dc of corner, 2dc in same st. *dc in each of next 7 dc, skip dtr and work a htr in 1ch sp of round 5 below, dc in next dc, skip 1ch sp and work a long tr around the spaces in round 3, 4 and 5 below, and behind the 1ch sp in round 6. dc in next dc, skip dtr and work a htr in 1ch sp of round 5 below, dc in each of next 7 dc, 3dc in next dc (middle dc of corner)*. Rpt from * to * twice more, dc in each of next 7 dc, skip dtr and work a htr in 1ch sp of round 5 below, dc in next dc, skip 1ch sp and work a long tr around the spaces in round 3, 4 and 5 below, and behind the 1ch sp in round 6. dc in next dc, skip dtr and work a htr in 1ch sp of round 5 below, dc in each of next 7 dc, join with a slst to beg dc, finish off B.
