Reader Rating: Average; Thunderbolts Interest: Low
Summary: On the road in Indiana, Rick Jones literally runs into Nitro, the exploding man, an agent for the Lunatic Legion who has just stolen a deadly nerve gas called Compound 13. When Captain Mar-Vell hits the scene he defeats Nitro, but inhales a quantity of the gas, which throws him into a coma.
The comatose Mar-Vell transforms back into Rick, who is taken to a nearby hospital for observation, and then things get complicated: Rick, from Earth, mentally controls the form of Mar-Vell in the Negative Zone, defending Mar-Vell in a battle against Annihilus. While, on Earth, a robot version of the Living Laser, also working for the Lunatic Legion, goes after Rick in the hospital and runs afoul of Ant-Man (Henry Pym) and the Wasp (Where'd THEY come from?)!
Once the threats are dealt with, Mar-Vell is treated and "cured" of the effects of the Compound 13. A pre-superpowers Carol Danvers appears.
Continuity: Compound 13 is the carcenagen that will eventually kill Mar-Vell.
Comments: "Blown Away!" is Jim Starlin's final issue of Captain Marvel and shows pretty clearly that, with Thanos out of the way, he really didn't have much of an idea of what to do next. "Deadly Genesis!" is a slapped together bridge story drawn (in an afternoon from the look of it) by Pablo Marcos, filling space until the new creative team could get going. Well, it's nice to see Carol Danvers again.
