"Trial…and Terror!" (1982/03/01) from Dazzler 13 (March 1982)

Summary: Pending her trial for murder, Dazzler spends a night on Ryker’s Island. There she is tortured by the Grapplers (including Screaming Mimi), who have the run of the place.

Continuity: Moonstone is probably on the Island at this time, but chooses to stay out of the melee.

The Grapplers escape from Ryker's shortly after this adventure, possibly during the confusion when Tiger Shark breaks Moonstone free (see "A Gathering of Evil", 1982/08/01).

Comments: There’s a whole lot of story here: Dazzler is pursued by the Feds, turns herself in, spends a night on Ryker’s Island (where she rocks with the Grapplers), then has her day in court. It’s too bad the thing is so heavy, because a campier touch might have made the nonsensical Ryker’s sequence work. Screaming Mimi is mean, but she’s not thinking very straight: Dazzler – who can turn sound into solid light – is her perfect nemesis. Watch how Dazzler’s blouse shrinks as the "women in chains" sequence progresses.
