Summary: Hawkeye’s pursuit of the Orb leaves both of them stranded in the desert. They stumble across the Plantman’s hidden stronghold and battle their way free of Smithers’ weird plant creatures. Then they find themselves in a ghost town populated by men the Orb thinks are his stoogies, but who are actually more of Plantman’s walking flora.
Continuity: Hawkeye’s only pre-Thunderbolts meeting with Plantman. Smithers is still on the loose at the end of the story.
Comments: Really, really silly. The Orb is so feeble and annoying that you keep wishing Hawkeye would just pop him. And I have endless problems with the crazy double coincidence of Hawk and the Orb stumbling onto Plantman’s experimental strongholds twice. There’s some amusement to be had, in retrospect, in seeing just how dreadful a character Smithers was prior to his late Thunderbolts conversion. And in case you didn't know, Solo Avengers and Avengers Spotlight are the same book; this is when the title changed.
