"Hawks and Doves" (1993/05/01) from New Warriors 35 (May 1993)

Summary: The Air Force breaks Cardinal out of prison, and the team tracks down Turbo and Nova for revenge. In unrelated vignettes, Night Thrasher visits with Silhouette and Cloak & Dagger, Speedball meets a nerdy neighbor, and Namorita gets wasted. The Air Force are Killer Shrike, Sparrow and Tanager.

Continuity: Cardinal is broken out of prison and works with the Air Force, who report to Air Command. He is referred to as "Joshua Clendenon." The entire squad is captured.

Robbie gets his own apartment.

In a strange gaff, Mickey, the female Turbo, thinks "How did Firestar beat Cardinal last time--? Microwaved the electronic circuitry in his suit, right?" That's not even close to what happened, unless there was an undocumented encounter between "Heavy Turbulence" (Previous/Clendenon) and this story.

Comments: A perfectly ordinary filler story wrapped around a pretty thin revenge plot. Cardinal gets a bit more personality, but he and his band just don't seem very dangerous.
