Erik's first visit to Kosmos, from Avengers 382

"Hank the Giant Killer" (1995/01/01) from The Avengers/Giant-Man 382 (January 1995)

Reader Rating: Below Average; Thunderbolts Interest: High

Summary: Hank Pym, as Giant-Man, investigates a series of bizarre attacks on people who have been exposed to the "Pym Particles" that make him grow. His attempts to stop an invasion of monsters lead him to the Kosmos dimension, where he encounters Erik Josten in dire straights. Several Avengers appear briefly: The Black Widow, Captain America, Crystal, Hawkeye, The Scarlet Witch, Tigra, the Vision, and the Wasp.

Continuity: Erik's explanation of his journey to the Kosmos dimension is a little muddled. Here, he indicates that he broke prison, went to an isolated location and grew until he breached an inter-dimensional border. In fact, he disappeared at the end of "Hidden Depth" (Previous/Josten) and probably popped into Kosmos then. Hawkeye, currently roughing it in Tennessee, appears briefly and is forever purged of his ability to become Goliath. This is the last of several installments, but there is a thorough recap and Erik appears in only this chapter. It is questionable whether Erik's next appearance, "Heavy Metal" (Josten/Next), is in continuity. If so, Erik recovers some of his Goliath powers. If not, Erik falls into a coma and is sent to a prison hospital.

Comments: As an author, George Perez is one of the best artists The Avengers ever had. Hank’s dull adventure is almost all exposition – and is crudely drawn, to boot.
