Iron Man does a 6-panel takedown, from Tales of Suspense 1995

Scene from "Men and Machines" (1995/01/02) from Tales of Suspense 1 (January 1995)

Thunderbolts Interest: Low

Summary: From his secret hideaway, the Fixer sends an automaton to attack Iron Man.

Continuity: The Fixer's last pre-Thunderbolts appearance is a voice-over, wherein he provides the soundtrack through an attacking automaton. The vignette starts on the right hand panel of page 9, continues across the bottom of pages 10-11 and the right hand panel of page 12, then concludes in the left hand panel of page 13.

Comments: The Fixer’s tussle with Iron Man is just an unrelated scene at the beginning of this long, slick Tales of Suspense tribute.  As for the tome itself, it is an utter failure.  The painted art is all style with no impact.  The plot -- a series of red herrings followed by a super-powered assassination attempt – is trite.  The volume has no ads, is wrapped by one of those clear plastic covers and totes a cover price of $6.95 (in 1995!)  The result utterly fails to capture the charm and thrills that 12 cents would get you in 1965, with the real Suspense.
