The Realm of Southern Hospitality
I live in southwest Louisiana, cajun country. I moved down here in 1980 and
although I'm not a true cajun, I have been adopted by these wonderful cajun
people. The food down here is truly wonderful. We have a festival for
everything, also. The Shrimp Festival, The Crawfish Festival, Mardi Gras in
Lafayette, The Boudin Festival, you name it....we have a celebration for it.
Also Ali Landry "Miss USA 1996" is from Breaux Bridge, a small cajun town
just 10 miles from here. Lafayette is considered the capitol of the french
speaking cajun country. Ever heard of Sammy Kershaw? He's from Kaplan,
Louisiana, just 20 miles from Lafayette. His last child was born on the same
day and at the same hospital as my granddaughter, he sent every mother on
the maternity floor a bouquet of flowers before he left. How about Aron
Neville and the Neville Brothers? They are from New Orleans. New Orleans
is only 2 hours from Lafayette. Although they have the biggest Mardi Gras
celebration, Lafayette is quickly becoming a more popular place for
celebrating this occasion. It is much safer here than in New Orleans. Our
population is only 100,000. But the expected growth here is supposed to
increase by 30,000 people in the next three years. We believe we have a
certain Joie de vivre in south Louisiana, translated that means joy of life.
So, ya'll come on down and visit us sometime. We'll roll out the red carpet
for you....Laissez les bons temps rouler....let the good times roll..

p.s. the dogs at the top are greyhounds. I adopted one in 1996 named "Pepper" and they are, by far, the greatest pet you can have. Pepper lived a great life, being an inside dog. He passed away June 12, 2006 at the old age of 13 years and 3 months old. The veterinarian said it was the oldest greyhound he had ever had as a patient. We will miss him dearly.
