"With his ebony hands on each ivory key, He made that piano moan with poor melody... Swaying to and fro on his rickety stool, He played that sad raggy tune like a musical fool."

                  Langston Hughes, "The Weary Blues"

"ALL KEYED UP" is coming!!!!!

Hello and welcome to "Ragtime Extravaganza", a site created (and recreated) for the ragtimers of the world. This site contains midi performances by me and other ragtime pianists, along with information on ragtime, its composers, and a little history. Feel free to peruse the midi "Library" to get samples of the finest sequences of ragtime available, or you can click on the "Renditions" link to access a site with my hand-played midi files on it. The "Biography" page is a place to find out all about me, and the "Contest" page provides the story of my past competitions..The "Favorite Links" page is a jumping point to all of my favorite web-sites on the web, and the "Ragtime Information Station" contains editorial and biographical information to advance the understanding of the ragtime particulars.   When your visit is done, sign the guestbook. I really appreciate you visiting Ragtime Extravaganza!

Ragtime Extravaganza News

  • (03/07/02)  Yeesh!   Three years without any sign of an update! I am back in PA and, after a LONG hiatus, am returning to the land of the web. I've got a new design in the works that will modernize this place a bit, as well as lots of new recordings, compositions, links, and now some high-quality MP3 versions of tunes for those of us who no longer answer the siren song of FM Synthesis (ask your parents). I hope to have the new design up by June. I apologize to those of you who have checked back with this website only to see the same thing for forever. Hopefully the new site will have been worth the wait. Until then, keep ragging!!!

  • (7/14/99)  Wow!   I'm alive!  And yes, I am back in the 'Burgh with some new ideas.   Today's update includes 3 versions of the "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin.  Also, as promised, a jazzy version of Eubie's "Baltimore Todolo" is now available for download.  And to cap it off, another new composition, the "2 AM Stomp," aptly named as you will see!  Enjoy!

  • (5/26/99) Big news:  The drought is broken!  "Monster! Prelude" is the newest addition to the website... written exclusively for the web!

  • (3/29/99) The address of this website is changed!!!  To make it easier to remember, this page can be accessed at:  http://beam.to/ragtimekid
