|MEG...the reason for our interest in Basset Hounds.
Rescued from the streets of Melbourne in September 0f 1974, Meg was our first. Following our return to Adelaide, we decided to find Meg a friend. Cleo (Ringen Cleopatra) came to live with us and soon became the mother of our first litter of Basset Hounds. The next few years were the beginning of a steep learning curve for Tony and myself, where we were introduced to the fun of showing our dogs. We soon learnt that we were not exactly on the right track and sought to rectify our mistakes. Through the Basset Hound link on this page you will learn how we went about that task.
CHAKRATA was granted to us as a kennel prefix in 1976. Chakrata is a town in Southern India but it is also the name of a ship which my husband, Tony sailed on in the 60's.
Tony passed away in 1996, but he will always be remembered within the canine fancy as a great enthusiast and a charming man. His soul remains here at CHAKRATA with myself and his beloved Basset Hounds.

|Now temporarily situated at Morpeth, near the Hunter Valley, New South Wales......CHAKRATA continues with a kennel of Basset Hounds, Pointers and Whippets.
We have retained our property at Evanston Gardens, near the beautiful Barossa Valley in South Australia where Olive Trees grow in the back paddocks and the soul of CHAKRATA remains.
I am licenced to judge Toys, Terriers, Gundogs, Hounds and Working Dogs, and am training to judge Non-Sporting and Utility dogs.
Judging takes a lot of my time but there is still some left over to browse antique and collectible shops seeking new artifacts to add to my collection.
I trust you enjoy your tour of CHAKRATA and again, I am delighted you have chosen to do so.
