UPDATE ON MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE IN FLORIDA!

I have been having the time of my life here at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. This place is truly amazing, and I have made some even more amazing friends. I joined UCF's marching band, the Marching Knights. Being a part of the marching knights has been so much fun, and I plan on doing it again next year. I am doing well in all of my classes and am looking forward to coming home for Christmas!

PROM

I have left out most of the days of this week in the journal because I haven't had time to do them and because not much really happened this week, except for an interesting conversation about sex with Hannah in physics a couple days ago. (Wow, wasn't that the longest sentence you've ever read?) Anyways, today I had my alarm set to go off at 9:30am. I was supposed to be at work at 11am. Well, I remember waking up, but I guess I fell back asleep because mom woke me up at 10:45 asking me if I had to work. I jumped up and scrambed as fast as I could to get ready, and I called in to say my alarm didn't go off. Ok, so I'm evil. On my way to work I also had to stop by the flower shop and pick on Amber's corsage for tonight. When I first got to work, everything was really slow and I got bored. But that peaceful time soon turned into pure chaos and madness when we had two birthday parties going on at once plus a huge herd of kids at the ticket redemption counter, etc. I was about to go mad. And, I almost dropped an entire pizza in a kid's lap. I tried to stop it by slapping my hand down on the top, so there was a big hand print in the cheese. The kids still ate it since I had gloves on when all this happened. Finally 3pm came in the midst of the madness and I tore out the front door and to my car. I drove almost all the way to Amber's before realizing I had left her corsage at the Zone. I stopped by her house to discuss what time I'd pick her up for dinner, etc., then I went back to the Zone to pick up the corsage. When I got home I cleaned out my car and headed to town to clean it up. When I got to the car wash, I pulled up to the automatic wash and waited for a car to get done that was already in there. When it was done getting washed, it just sat there for a while. Finally, a strange-looking guy (from school) in a lime-green tuxedo (YUCK) got out of the car and told me it was dead. I was thinking "Of all freaking times for something as crazy as this to happen, it has to happen now???!!!!" So, I backed up and vaccummed out my car first. When I was done and went back to the car wash, the other car was thankfully gone. I got back home at 5pm, 45 minutes before I was supposed to pick up Amber. I took a speed shower and searched all over the house for my camera before finally leaving at 5:45. (hehe oops!) When I showed up at Amber's, it was about 5:55. Our dinner reservation was at 6. She came running out the door, holding up her dress and all. HEHEHE. Her mom came running out after her yelling "Wait! We have to take pictures first!" So, her mom too pics of us with her and my cameras, then we got out of there. On our way to Chelsea's, Amber realized she had forgotten to buy a disposable camera, so we made a stop at Wal-Mart. People were starting at us running around the store in a tuxedo and fancy dress. We finlaly made it to Chelsea's at 6:10. After we sat down and had our soup and salad, some lady walked up and had our table moved to another section because they had seated us in the wrong section. I started laughing so hard when I realized we were seated next to Karen Tullis and Sid Pickins! hahaha. Anyways, when I was trying to cut the bread they gave us, I started out fine, but then I started smashing it. Amber just sat there and laughed at me and about how she wasn't sure which fork or spoon to use for certain things. For desert I had this REALLY good cheesecake in rasberry sauce. YUM! :-) We finally left at about 7:30 and went to the Portrait Station to get our pictures taken. While we were waiting I "danced" with Amber's little 3rd grade sister Glenna, who was also going to prom. We finally got to prom at about 8:20pm. The entrace to the gym looked really cool...there were lots of trees and plants and four huge tiki-torches surrounding the door, and there was a huge statue thing of a lion ane more plants off to the left. Inside was pretty cool too. There were green baloons EVERYWHERE. In the guy's bathroom, there were (for some reason) pee targets on the urinals. Go figure hehehe. In the gym there was a huge "statue" of a face of some sort, a recreation of a waterfall/pond, and a tiki-hut for the DJ. When the DJ played "Cotten-eyed Joe," everyone there got in huge lines and danced up and down the gym. It was crazy! Overall, the night was a lot of fun. Finally we all took some more pictures and left. I dropped Amanda off at her car then dropped Amber and Glenna off before going home myself. I was just too tired to go to any parties, even though I had been invited to a few.

This morning I barely made it to school on time. Band rehearsal was surprisingly not as bad as it has been the past few weeks. Mr. Nelson did a lot less yelling and stopping throughout the music. After band I headed to homeroom, where Tina told me this huge story about my brother staying the night with her brother at her house on Saturday night and about how she woke up scared because of the storm, etc. I guess I had to be punished for not being stressed out in band, because after homeroom I headed to calculus, where I am currently not understanding anything that we're doing. Well, I'm understanding a little, but not much. I suffered through that class, headed to lunch, then on to the counselor's office to work on the scholarship application that was due today. THEN, I had to go to the courthouse and print out something for the application on my mom's computer, make copies, and take it by First National to turn in. On my home I stopped by First Federal to pick up some college financial stuff and then finally headed home. Tonight I FINALLY got my collage done, and I will present it tomorrow in class. While I was working on the collage, I got a much expected phone call from a certain someone in Springfield. :-) Well, I'm happy that I have the collage done, but now I just have a million other things to do for English, calculus, physics, and my ASU history class. Hopefully the next few weeks won't be too bad. Well, it's almost 1:30am and I'm headed to bed! Til next time...

I didn't get up until about 1pm again today. I worked on my collage most of the afternoon. Hannah called around 2pm and asked if I wanted to go out and do something with her and Julia. I really wanted to, but I knew that I had a lot of work to do and a scholarship application that is due tomorrow. Tonight I just worked on the collage a little more and chatted online for a bit. I got in bed around 2am. Obviously today was very uneventful.

Today I didn't wake up until almost 1pm. When I got up, Mom told me I couldn't go anywhere tonight until I had my room cleaned and the living floor collage mess cleaned up. So, I worked all afternoon cleaning, etc., and then she let me go out. I headed over to Jason's and he, Adam, and I went to Springfield. We had dinner at the Olive Garden, and oh wasn't it an experience! There's a story behind everything, hehe. It's weird, because it turns out that our waiter was from Florida and was just in Springfield visiting family for a couple months. Adam mentioned in front of him that I was going to college in Florida, so we talked a little about UCF and staying out of trouble. (Me? Get into trouble??) Well after the garden we headed to Martha's. There wasn't as big of a crowd as I expected at first, but later in the night a lot of people showed up. All in all, it was a fun night! A certain someone showed up that none of us cared to see, so he eventually left. Whether he got the hint or not, I have no idea. Oh, also a certain someone from Harrison showed up that I was happy to see, but they didn't exactly turn out the way I expected. Is that bad or good? I'll leave that for you to decide. We left Martha's around 12:30am. Just as we were walking out the doors, it started pouring down rain and eventually hail came too. We headed to the Wal-Mart Supercenter so Adam could get some groceries. A certain phrase goes with the most memorable part of the Wal-Mart experience: "Dance: If it were any easier, it would be football." hehehe. Anyways, we finally left Wal-Mart and headed home in the storm. We got back around 4:30am.

This morning in band, Hannah suggested to me that we both skip physics because we are taking a huge, five-chapter test in there. But, the test is open-book so I asked her why we should skip and she said we just should because she didn't feel like taking the test. I didn't feel like taking the test either, so and and I both started thinking of excuses that could get us out of physics. During English, we got to leave and go to the gym for a college signing. Six of the Mtn. Home cross country/track team members were signing letters of intent to run for a college. Five of them signed letters for UALR, and the other signed for some college in Kansas. After lunch I decided I shouldn't skip physics, so I went. Hannah (what a surprise) showed up too. It's a good thing that we did, because we almost finished the test. After physics, Hannah asked me if her German exchange student (Julia) could hang out with me while she was at work. So, at 4:30, I met Hannah at the school, where she was waiting on the Germans to get back from New Orleans. I took Julia to my house and we watched some videos, played pinball, and show a few games of pool. Then we met Hannah, Amanda, Wes, Brea, her cousin, and their exchange students (Michael and Michaela) at Harps. We all decided to cosmic bowling at Riverlake. The place was pretty deserted....kinda surprising for a Friday night. We played two games, and Michael kept changing my name on the screen and replacing it with bad German words. Finally all left. I was about to go home and decided to stop by Simon and Jason's first to see what was going on with them. Simon was still out of town, so I stayed and talked to Jason for a while. We ended up going into the chat room and actling like we were other people, etc. We ended up talking to this person from Harrison who said they might meet us in Springfield Sat. night at Martha's. We are crazy!!!!!!!! I didn't get home until almost 4am and let's just say that Mom wasn't very happy with me.

Ok, so I've fallen behind on the entires! I've just been really busy, but hopefully now I can stay caaught up. Anyways, today I started the day with the normal routine of breakfast, etc. etc. etc. School was pretty uneventful today too. At 12:30 I finally got to go get my hair cut - so now it looks good again! Later, at 3:45, I had an orthodontist appointment. I told Dr. Murphy and the other nurses about me going to UCF, and they were all so excited and "cheery" for me. I really will miss them all because they're such nice people. Well, while I was there Dr. Murphy gave me some bad news. He said that I need to have my wisdom teeth cut out this summer before I go to college. :( I was not happy to hear that! After leaving that most dreadful appointment, I went to Amber's, and then we both went to the print shop to make some color copies of pictures for her collage. When I went home, I worked on my collage for a while, and then I got a call from someone I had met a long time ago (but haven't talked to in forever.) He begged me to come hang out with him and Simon, but I refused, telling him that I was very busy (which I really was.) So, I finally gave in and they came to pick me up. We drove around for a while talking, etc. I felt very awkard as things were brought up, but I can't really explain everything in detail now. Finally they brought me home, and just before I went to bed I realized that I had a seven-page scholarship application to fill out that is due tomorrow. I didn't get in bed until almost 2am.

Ok, so I am not a morning person. Mom had to wake me up about three times because I kept falling back asleep. Plus, it was storming outside which only made me more sleepy. I went for a change in breakfast and had a bagel and cream cheese instead of my normal bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats. When I was eating my bagel I started thinking and realized that I really do need to start eating healthier. I am usually so busy every day that all I have time to do is make a frozen pizza or Schwan's Barquito in the microwave and scarf it down before running off to some other activity or homework. Anyways, band this morning was no different. Mr. Nelson spent his time yelling at everyone and having us play the same part of the same song over and over again. By now I have learned not to let band ruin my day, since it easily could ruin anyone's day if they let it. In English we sat through more collage presentations and some lecture about the AP Exam. Not a very eventful class, eh? Then, at lunch, I was suprisingly not confronted by Wes, who apparently was mad at me for telling people that he told me about the stabbing incident that took place last Friday night. I'm not sure why he would be mad at me about that, but who knows....people are strange. (I guess I really don't have any room to talk.) Towards the end of lunch I realized there was supposed to be a National Honor Society meeting today, so I ran to the room where it was being held.....only to find everyone leaving. Oops. Later, in physics, we were all again bored to death with Mr. Pillow's weird teaching methods. When I was FINALLY released from prison...I mean school.....I went outside to see the "destruction" of the storm. There were just little pieces of trees laying everywhere. I went home, cleaned my room a little, then went to the print shop to make some copies of more pictures for my collage. When I came back home around 4pm or so, I fell asleep. The sound of the doorbell woke me up, and Becky was here! She helped on kind of figuring out a layout/design for my collage and we worked until about 9:30, then she had to go home. Well, let's just say an old "friend" called me, and I ended up going to town and hanging out with a couple people for a while. What a weird experience this was! (More on this later.) Oh, I just realized that I forgot to go pick up my band uniform at the cleaners. Oh well. Anyways, it's late and I need to catch up on some long needed sleep. Til next time.... :-)

Tuesday, April 10, 2001

This morning I had like 15 minuntes to get ready for school! Dad woke me up at 7:20am. When I realized what time it was, I started running around like crazy trying to get ready on time. At school, I spent most of band catching up on some calculus homework, only to go to calculus next hour and be bored to death a really hard lesson. When I was leaving school, I saw Jenny and John sitting outside so I went over to say hi. Jenny mentioned that the whole stabbing story had apparantley gotten all over school and that it was true, but there were several different versions of the story. After I left school, I went home to grab a bite to eat. I was so tired that I fell asleep for about 1 1/2 hours. After that I went and picked up some medicine for mom, ordered my tux for prom (it's awesome!), and went to The Zone to apply for a job. They hired me on the spot! Woo hoo! I guess I'll have fun there, but I hope to get a better paying job this summer when I can work more hours. I'd like to at least save some money before I go to college! After I left The Zone and took Mom her medicine, I went on to my college history class at ASU. Again I was reminded of how much I hate that class and of how boring it is! Is Mrs. Ramsey were just a little more lively or if she would just do something besides sit there and lecture the entire time, then maybe everyone would enjoy the class a little more! At the end of class, I realized that my class ring was missing. Mrs. Ramsey asked me if I even had it to begin with, and I told her yes and explained that I usually take it off when I'm writing stuff down. So I looked in my bag, then she told me to look under my binder again. Sure enough, there it was.....only to find out she had been wearing it the entire second half of the class and then she planted it back under my binder! Justin and I hung out for a while after class and he told me about the whole situation with him, Chad, and Jason. I had no idea any of that was going on, so it caught me by surprise. He also told me of his fun-filled weekend in Fayetteville and Eurkeka Springs, while my weekend was spent here in Mtn. Home (oh, and Branson!) Justin also invited me to a very interesting party in Eureka Springs in May. Anyways, after we hung out I headed home and worked on my collage a little and now I'm just really tired. I should be writing a past-due email to a certain person in Orlando, but I've been putting it off. (I'm in an awkward situation and have been putting off writing the email because I am not sure of what to say or how to say it.) Well, morning will be here soon so I better get some sleep!

Monday, April 9, 2001

This morning Mom woke me up at about 6:45am, but I didn't roll out of bed until almost 10 after 7. It was so nice when I realized I could dress for Spring weather. When I walked into the living room, I noticed the pieces of posterboard and piles of pictures and magazine articles that I'm eventually supposed to turn into my AP English senior collage. I was so tired today, and in band we had so freetime - so I tried to sleep for a while. In English, Kim P. and Becky presented their collages. Both of them were very impressive...and well, Becky had some VERY suggestive things on hers. Hehehe and only I knew the truth! :) After that and some discussion, Mrs. Bergman actually let us go outside. The weater is so freaking beautiful right now! This kind of weater really gets me excited about Florida and going to UCF. After school I washed my car and went to Wal-Mart to get some posterboard for my collage. Then I headed to Parties Plus to pick out a tux for prom. That's always a blast....ummm......not. When I got home from town, I went through a pile of stuff to put on my collage. Tonight I went over to Amber's to work on tons of calculus we were supposed to have done a long time ago. We worked for about 3 1/2 hours and still didn't finish everything. Oh well. Finding free time in the next month is going to be hard when I have about 6 major projects to work on in English, calculus homework, and eventually a new job.

Here goes my first attempt at this journal.....Well, today was an adventure in itself! I woke up at 5:50am this morning to get ready to go to Silver Dollar City with some friends (Amber, Hannah, Brea, Amanda, Wes, Aaron, and their GAPP exchange students. I'll do my best to spell these: Michael, Michala, and Julia.) I made it to Hannah's on time (7:15) only to wait for people to finish showering, etc. Actually, everyone was brushing their teeth when I got there. On our way to Branson, Wes told me that a girl in our grade had been stabbed Friday night when she was walking near the post office. I couldn't believe it....I was thinking, "A stabbing? In Mtn. Home? Yea right." But sure enough, I found out that the story was true and the police are still looking for the guy who did it. Anyways, our day at SDC was a lot of fun. I taught the Germans many new American words....and some of them were not so good. But, they taught me new ones too. Sadly, we only got a chance to rid ethe new roller coaster "Wildfire" once because it broke down after we rode it the first time. It was awesome!!! After a long and fun day, we all headed home. Amber and I stayed at Hannah's talking for almost an hour when we got back...we got a lot of stuff out in the open. After that I went to Wal-Mart (which was unfortunately closed) then headed over to a friend's house to watch QAF. I did something at my friend's house that I probably shouldn't have....but I probably shouldn't mention that here. Also, I got sprayed with about 15 different kinds of cologne and left smelling like a perfume/cologne store. I got home around 11pm to find the house empty. When I checked the voice mail, I got a message mom had left saying she and dad were at the hospital and that my brother Josh had been in a motorcycle accident. So, I drove to the hospital to check and see how he was. He had broken his collar bone and scratched up his foot. Finally I went home and got in bed around 1am.
