RIVERWATCH 2006 LITTER
On June 1, we whelped our first litter in 4 years. This a line breeding on our foundation bitch Ch Ptarmigan Gale At Riverwatch. Tempest was a 5 time national
specialty winner, 7 time Westminster BOB winner and she holds the show record for Curly Coated Retriever Bitches in the history of the breed. Her children have
titled in Conformation, Obedience, and Field.
Ch Riverwatch Desert Wind (Loki) is a Tempest son from her first litter. This litter is his sixth and he has also produced titled get in Conformation, Obedience and
Field. His son, Ch Riverwatch Southern Cross now holds the Record for Best In Shows, Group 1�s and is 2 group placements short of the group placement record
for curly coated retrievers. He is also the first curly to win a group placement at the Westminster Kennel Club show and the Eukanuba Tournament of Champions
show. Ch Softmaple O Dark Thirty (Jet) is also a son of Loki and the Father of Ch Softmaple Pheasant Dreams (Moxie), the mother of our litter. Jet has one of
only 3 Master Hunter titles for Curly Coated Retrievers. His daughter Moxie was Best of Winners at the 2004 National Specialty and went on to 3 group
placements in the next couple of months. She is working on her Junior Hunter title as well as being titled in our new obedience sport rally.
This breeding will hopefully produce puppies with good bone and size as is required in our standard as well as good coats, type, soundness, and heads. The puppies
should be outgoing as are both of their parents, have some natural field ability, and have good trainability even tho they may be a bit challenging because of their
innate self confidence.
As we lost Loki a couple of years ago, the breeding was a frozen semen implant. This is Moxie�s second litter and she has been a joy to have in our home and is a
great mom. Both parents are Hip, Elbow, Eyes, and Heart Clear.
As we have had heart murmurs diagnosed in a couple of litters bred by us from clear parents, we have been extremely careful about subsequent breedings. Loki has
not produced an affected puppy as far as we know and Moxie is clear and to date her pups from her first litter seem to be ok. They are just old enough to be
cardiac cleared for OFA now. No murmur diagnosed has been serious and the dogs are leading normal lives. I will guarantee health as I always do with this litter
too but I cannot say unequivocally that there will be no heart problems in this litter. It is our hope that this litter will give us the clear hearts we need to continue our
breeding program and is the reason we chose to do this breeding.
Here at Riverwatch, we breed only occasionally and strive to improve our curlies both structurally , mentally, and healthwise. We have been fortunate to have
produced some very fine animals that are active in many dog oriented areas and great companions. This litter will continue our commitment to the Curly as a breed
and to the great people who live with and love this very special breed.
