First lets talk about busy signals.
Right now in Crescent Valley local dial area we have 7 phone numbers.
At first glace this almost seems like a small number of lines.
The thing too remember is that ISPs (INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS) live on what is called the
10 percent rule, that is only 10 percent of their subscribers on the average are using
the system at any 1 time or 10 users to a dial up line.
Now at an estimated cost of 80 dollars per month for each line to Eureka, where the server is,
it is easy too see how it is cost prohibitive to add many more lines at this time.
Ok what did all that mean to us out here in Crescent Valley. Well it means that at 7 dial up lines our ISP should be able to handle 70 users before it gets overwhelmed. As of the last information I have there are currently only 55 subscribers in the Crescent Valley area or 7.8 users to a dial up.
Now don't get me wrong there are times when the 10 percent rule will brake down and the lines always seem busy. Like between 3PM (when the kids get home) till about 10 PM (when must of us are in bed). What we have to do is kind of learn too work around these times. Also we need to be courteous of other users and try to limit our time online during the peak times.
Now about the constant ringing problem. For the most part this one was on Nevada Bell NOT ECIS and should be fixed by now. What happened is a phone router was not routing our calls to the server in Eureka. So it could not answer what it did not know was ringing. A problem very similar to the busy signal problem we had back in Oct Nov of 1999 when the calls where being miss routed by Nevada Bell.
Some times if the system is not working calling one of the other numbers can get you thu.
0180 is the main number and should be the 1 dailed unless there is a problem, ie constant ringing
the other numbers are 0181, 0182, 0244, 0993, 0994, 0717
