Dear friends,
Greetings from Medellín Colombia. Even though we live close to the Equator, it is nice and cool here because Medellín is 1500m high in the mountains and beautifully surrounded by mountains. From Sept.-March it rains more. But in the city center there is a lot of smog, hopefully in the future the busses will run on gas. The worst part is to see little children begging on the streets. They should first of all be in school and not “working”. I wish I could help them all. I am working in the communications, publications and maintenance department with YWAM in mercy ministries for the 25 children we have in our care. It is nice to see the children happy. |

A periodic task for us foreign missionaries is to prolong our visas. It usually makes one worry and pray. Gathering documents, photos, signatures etc. The visa costs $205,= and travel to the capital made me a poor man again. And then the joy when it worked out all right. Thank God I got my visa for Colombia renewed for another year.

My Health. “Wash your hands” My mom would always say before eating. I have wondered; why do we need to wash our hands? What happens if you don’t wash your hands? I am now 21 years in missions, and have passed through many countries and worked in 4 long term. I discovered what happens when you don’t wash your hands, most times I can wash my hands as good as I can but eating contaminated food and water makes one horribly sick. Over the years I have experienced all kinds of Parasites and things that make one feel sick, and recently Tapeworm. It is not polite in many countries to reject food and drink when visiting homes, but it is often necessary to stay healthy. Besides avoiding parasites I discovered that I also feel a lot better if I don’t drink full-cream milk and avoiding conservatives (in my favorite Ketchup), avoids a skin itch after a shower. And I realized that I am allergic to Peanuts. So now I feel a lot better keeping the rules, thank God for health.
It is always a challenge to live of faith. Living far away from home with little money and helping people at the same time. I thrust in God that He will provide. |
In the home of refuge “Ebenezer” some girls are eager to help me installing a bunk bed.
