Bar Holder

I've alway thought a bar holder would be nice. I mean, I have bars scattered all over everywhere. But, there is no way I could justify spending 70 to 100 dollars on one. I even passed on a used one for 50 dollars. After all, they just hold a bar. They aren't lifted or used directly in a workout. So, I decided to make one.

I used 2" and 1 1/4" PVC pipe, cut to fit in a cement block. They fit 2" and 1" pipe respectively. They will be cemented in place. I planned on attaching a wooden base to the block. That's when things got interesting. I discovered it is very hard to drill cement. I got one hole in one block and burnt the bit. After talking to a few people, I discovered to drill in cement I really needed a hammer drill. It makes a rapid hammer motion while it drills. I may rent on this summer, but so far the one I made is working fine. The other one is being used for shorter bars, and doesn't seem to need a base. At this point, I just have rags shoved in between the block and the PVC. It is holding fine, but I will cement both of them this summer. That will make them even more stable.
