Hi! You've really put together an informative site. I descend from Luke Crumpton through his son David through his son Levi Crumpton/Compton. Levi is buried in the Compton Community, Rusk Co. Texas. Does anyone have information as to the reason for the name change? I have seen some mention of a family f ud (Cobb, Avary, Thames). Miriam (Myram) Crumpton was married to Jesse Avary. Could there be a connection between this feud and certain members of the Crumpton family changing their name to Compton?

You have done an excellent job on this page. My husband is decended from Luke(1),Luke C. Jr.(2) and his great grandfather was Luke (3) b. 1843. He died here in Bowie Co, Texas and is buried in a family plot in Texarkana. I love all the information as to names, birth, deaths, but what really makes it all come alive are the personal stories as used in the information on William. My only regret is that I was unable to copy it. The width of the information makes it impossible for me to print. ANy suggesti ns from anyone ? Thanks Dan for posting this site on the mailing list. I really have enjoyed it.

Crumptons is one of many surnames I am researching. Andy Crumpton, brother of your William Crumpton(1824), is my husband's ancestor. I looked at the Index yesterday; I was interested in several names. Was the index from your data or did it come from Dan Crumpton? There is a Jincy Smith, no dates. Could she possibly be the Jincy Smith b. 1802 who died in Shelby County, AL July 1, 1859? Martha Roper Weaver is listed in the index. She is the daughter of Jincy Smith and William Roper(not in the index). How does Mar ha Roper and Jincy Smith connect with the Crumptons?

What a wonderful set of pages. Thank you for the special effort on behalf of all us Crumptons. I was interested in your page referncing the Crumpton/Baxter link. My cousin, Helene Ervin Stevens Cox of Statesville, NC, had a copy of the Baxter family history as recently as 10 years ago, and it included a photograph of my dad's family taken in the yard of the farm at Fellowship, FL, in about 1917. I think it was tak n at the time of my grandfather's funeral (Zacharia or Zachary Crumpton . . . I'm not sure which). Grandfather was a Baptist circuit preacher for a number of years (1898 to 1904, according to the Church's history book) for the towns of Fellowship, Blichton, and Williston, FL. He was also born early enough to be a soldier in the "Army of Southern Libera ion." I believe he said he as a drummer boy, which would have him born about 1843 (I recall that he was 79 when he died in 1917). Somewhere around here, I have a video tape I took of the cemetery where he is buried and of his tombstone, which has the date on it. I'll find it and be able to give an exace birth date, if anyone is interested. He is buried in a cemetery near Williston, FL, (I think it is called the Broadway Cemetery . . . the funeral home in Williston gave me directions a few years ago) because of the insistence of one of his daughters by his first marriage (she became a Sistru k by marriage). My grandmother Ella and her family of the time (Phillips) are buried in the Fellowhip Baptist Church Cemetery at Fellowship, FL. There are a number of Ella's children there as well (Una, Barbara, Zach, and others). Her son Richard is buried in Georgia. Can't think of the name of the cemetery or town, but it is close to the Florida line. Richard Kenneth (Ken) Crumpton, now of Calahan, FL, is his son and can give anyone the details, as well as the exact location of my grandfather. I think Kenneth spent a fair amount of time with his dad in the last few years prior to his death trying to get a handle on the family history as he knew it. Kenneth has 3 sons living in Florida, Rick in Lakeland, Mike in Cleremont, and Kieth in Leesburg. His daughter is in Denver, CO. I have a son, John Mabrey Crumpton, III, living in Charlotte, NC, and a daughter, Loren Ann Crumpton Dean, living in Four Oaks, NC. Neither has any children at the present time. Apologies for maundering on so long, but I have had very little contact with the Crumpton family. My mother (Elizabeth Bernadine Kress Crumpton) and my aunt Una Crumpton Proctor had a "falling out" back about 1933 (before I was born), so mother kept me aw y from the Crumptons . . . come to think of she had a "falling out" with her family, too, because I didn't know any of them, either. Again, a wonderful page. Hopefully, some of my remembrances will be helpful to some of the Crumptons/Cumptons/Comptons/Cromptons/etc.

Janice, you finally did what I'm sure everyone else has fantasized about occassionally. It looks great, but who cares. We all want a common place to meet and exchange ideas and clues. I like the idea of a master index. What we should try for, of cours , but never attain, would be a tree of the progenitor of Crumptons and all living Crumptons under him. Thanks for getting us started.
