Thanks for the opportunity to visit some of the abney names. I do not recognize any as of this time, but i plan to visit the site more often. I am the son of Earl C.Wheeland and Lorene I. (Abney) Wheeland. My mother was the daughter of Robert R. Abney and Minnie E. (Gammier) Abney. She was born in Beaumont, Texas on 09/18/20 and passed away 12/21/96. She had a brother that passed away in Februa y 1968. His name was Robert R. Abney JR. I am reasonably sure that I recall my grandfather was from the Abneys around Lufkin, Texas. He was born in 1899 and passed away 12/16(?)/1960. If anyone has any information on my grandfather or his brothers Joe Abney m. to Lila Abney of Houston, Tx, Henry Abney m. to Betty Abney of Tomball, Tx, Tom Abney m. to Ion (at one time), I would greatly appreciate an email. Have enjoyed viewing all the good information. We really appreciate the good work you all are doing with this web site. I am descended from a John Webster Abney from somewhere in Mississippi. He left home as a teenager(approx. 16 years of age) and we do not have other information as to his parents. I was told that his mother remarried to someone by the name of Campbell (not sure of spelling). This Campbell may have been a sheriff in Mississippi somewhere around the 1860's. I anyone know anything feel free to share this information. Thanks. Ted

I am a 6XGGS of Joseph Mays, brother of Mattox Mays, who was married to Dorcas Abney in mid-1700's southern VA (I surmise perhaps about 1757). There is a distinct 'tie' between the 'Abney' & 'Mays' lines of this era & area. Various legal documents & lan ownership maps of particularly Halifax County confirm this interrelationship. Following the death of Mattox Mays in 1773 Halifax, Dorcas Abney>Mays REmarried to their attorney, William Hill, and they relocated to join other 'Abney' familymembers in Edge ield County, SC. They had a son, Dannett Hill, and it is my understanding that father William Hill died in 1801, while mother Dorcas did so in 1804. I would be very interested in learning more about the family of Dorcas Abney>Mays>Hill. Will also be gl d to exchange information from the 'Mays' perspective. Thanks for responding to Bob Mayse of Fredericksburg, TX.

My grandmother's name was Nettie Abney Zoller. She was born Feb. 9, 1897 possibly in Williamson County, Illinois. She died July 20, 1918 in Marion, Illinois. Her parents were Thomas and Flora Kelton Abney. Roy, Earl, and Charles were the names of her brothers. I'm not sure if she had any other siblings. Her mother died when she was very young and she was tossed to different family members until she married at the young age of 16. I have hit a dead end on my research on this part of my family. If anyone might be able to shed a little light on this group of Abney's, I would be very greatful.

Hey, this is great. My family is from Southern Illinois and the Carolinas, from what I've been told. Davis Ottawa Abney, grandfather; George Milton Abney, g-grandfather (b.1850 in Montgomery, TN; d.1919 in Iwka, Illinois) and Harmon Abney in the Carolina , was my g-g-grandfather. My mom is sending me some stuff from the family Bible so I can double check. This is terrific.

Hello cousins, I'm in Mandeville Louisiana. I'm one of the many descendants of Jesse Mercer Abney who settled in this area shortly after the War Between the States. I've been in the area on and off since my birth 51 years ago. I am quite interested in finding out about ny Abneys who served in either army during the War Between the States and would like to compile information on those folks if the info and data is forthcoming. If you have anything or if I can help you please let me know. I'd like to hear from any of you Rebel and Yankee alike. My direct ancestors were members of the Confederate Army. I am particularly interested in the 56th Alabama Partisan Rangers and the 10th and 12th Mississippi Cavalary Regiments (Jesse was a member of each as far as I can determine . If any of you happen to know anything about the above mentioned units please contact me. There were certainly Abneys in other units inclding Abney's Battalion of Sharpshooters (South Carolina) which was led by Joseph Abney. I recall reading about a "Pin y Floyd" Abney of the 41st Georgia Infantry. Anyway, contact me with any and all info. There are many more names, I just don't have the time now to list them all. Thanks, Linc Abney

I wish I could find someone as dedicated for the Chancellors. I've been to the Abney graveyard in Nason, Jefferson co, Illinois, where Joshua Abney is buried, a couple of times; it's not that far from St. Louis. Patsy should be buried there too, although as usual, the wife never received a separate gravestone. Joshu did some traveling in his life; Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, back to Kentucky, at a time when traveling just wasn't easy. I guess they'd settle down for awhile, get comfortable, then Joshua would start looking at the horizon again. Patsy would probably s e that look in his eyes, and say to herself, "Oh No! Not again." Joshua died in 1844; the last record I have of Patsy is in the 1840 census. Joe Myers
