Riga's Central Market
Latvia
On this trip I was always looking for an extreme example of the free market at work in Russia and the Baltic States. I found it in Riga, Latvia, where a large number of huge World War I blimp hangers have become the Central Market. Each building specializes in a different type of food product.

Cheese, everywhere I looked, incredible varieties of cheese.

Egg central, apparently sold by the egg. No sign of packaging. Other poultry projects were also here.

Sausages, anyone? You want it; they have it. This is only going to get worse for vegetarians. I am in the meat market now, which included pig heads. There was also an entire market for fish and fish products.

The Latvians appear to like every kind of meat. Those above seem to be sized large and extra large. Elsewhere the meat is being cut, which made for great audio and video. Plus I have no idea what kind of meat any of this might be.
