Samuel Clark removed from Lyme to East Haddam, CT, and joined the church there in 1747 on letter from Lyme. He signed receipts on 12 May 1750, as guardian for his children: Phebe, Dan, Champion, Elijah, Samuel & Sarah-for their shares in their grandfather's estate. The inventory of Samuel's estate was presented 1 May 1758. His son, Dan Clark, was appointed administrator. Dan Clark and Dan Lord were appointed 8 May 1759 as guardians of Samuel's minor children: Elijah, Samuel & Sarah, all of East Haddam, CT.

William Barnes built a dwelling house in the present Mt. Parnassus school district of EAst Haddam in 1706. This stood upon the place called "the Clark place" from 1746 to 1834 and since "the Edmund Smith place". Mr. Barnes died in 1716, but the place was kept in the Barnes family until 1746, when it was sold by William Barnes to Samuel Clark of Lyme. Mr. Clark died in 1758, but had probably built a new house in place of the original Barnes house, before his death. The Clark farm which had increased to one hundred acres, was distributed among his children , his wife having died in 1754. Dan Clark, the eldest son, had his double portion at the southern extremity of the farm with the major interest in the house and barn.
