Katahdinview caters to stand and still hunters.  We have stands placed over well used trails, rubs and scrape lines.  However, the preferred method of hunting in Northern Maine is still-hunting.  This type of hunting is for the hunter who wants to stalk down his game.  With excellent beech ridges, as well as permission to hunt on various farms, Katahdinview offers some great deer hunting.  The rifle season is in November, right at the peak of the rut in Northern Maine.  We also offer Muzzle loading hunts during the first week of December.  During this time of year the snow is usually on the ground, offering the hunter a great opportunity to track down his quarry.  The Maine deer herd has increased over the past few years, due to a buck’s only law.  However, if you wish to apply for Maine’s any deer permit, Katahdinview can point you in the right direction on how to obtain one.  Northern Maine is well known for it’s large deer.  200 pound deer (field-dressed), are not uncommon.  This area of Northern Maine is also home to some big bears.  When you purchase a big game license, the hunter is given a tag for deer and bear.  If a hunter is fortunate enough to harvest both animals, Katahdinview will not charge you for the extra animal.
The State of Maine has a hunter orange law.  During the firearms season on deer, hunters must wear a blaze orange hat, and vest, or jacket.  This law is to ensure the safety of our hunters.

Katahdinview also offers guided deer hunts in Central Maine.  This area of Maine boasts the largest deer per mile ratio in the state.  This deer hunt does not take place from our main lodge, but accomadations are provided.
