Religion in the Thallian Empire
Princian Religion
The only legal organized religion in the Thallian empire is the Princian religion. The Princians worship a diety they call the Mighty Prince, and ceremonies focus on the Mighty Prince's future appearanc in Thera to rule over the world. Princians do not believe other dieties exist, and claim those worshipping othe deities are practicing remnant of old blasphemous traditions. Princians generally mistrust all schools of magic except for life magic. At times the Princian authorities have proclaimed regional dieties as princian heros to convince the regions inhabitant to convert to princians.
The Great Precursor
The great precursor is the undisiputed leader of the princians, and reside in the temple compound in Middleton. The precursor is believed to be the mediator between mortals and the Mighty Prince, and th precursor's will is considered equal to the Mighty Prince's will. The church is further divided into regions, ruled over by judicars. Judicars are clerics, monks, paladins, or other religious figures who recieve special administrative powers from the precursor and his advisors. The precursor is thought to have authority equal to the emperor's and they have a relationship that is a balance of cooperation and competition. Often times religious edicts will become imperial law, and vice versa.
Maxidro IV
The current precursor is an aging Orc who took the name Maxidro after his precursor appointment. Maxidro IV is considered arrogant and over-bearing, and has decided during his term as precursor he would eliminate any traces of heresy in the empire. 25 yrs. ago Maxidro IV declared necromancy, and telepathy as official heresies, and subsequently the emporer passed a law outlawing them. Many necromancers and telepaths still exist, but hide their magical preference from mainstream society. Maxidro recently appointed several inquisitors to find and flush out any heresies in the empire. The inquisitors are the assassins of the princians, and are used to eliminate any resistance to princian doctrine.
