Meg Ryan as the voice of Anastasia and John Cusack as Dimitri
This is somewhat similar to the 1956 Ingrid Bergman and Yul Brynner film "Anastasia." In 1916, at the beginning of the Russian Revolution, Czar Nicholas II and his family offended the monk Rasputin, who in turn put a curse on them. In 20th Century Fox's rendition, the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov (the czar's youngest daughter) and her grandmother, the Dowager Empress Marie, escape with the aid of a young palace servant named Dimitri. Anastasia and Marie are separated, but Anastasia believes they will meet again in Paris.
By 1926, young Dimitri has become a handsome con-man, and Anya is an 18 year old orphan with no memories of her previous life. Dimitri and his companion Vladimir notice Anya's resemblance to the Grand Duchess and plan to deliver her to the Dowager Empress in return for a considerable reward. The trip to Paris is wrought with adventure, as Anya is hindered by the evil villain Rasputin and his minions.
